Are you passionate about the environment? At Terracon, we are experiencing significant growth, and we are searching for a dynamic environmental department leader for our local office! We are looking for an accomplished, Environmental Professional to lead, and ultimately, grow our environmental business line for the area. The team includes three distinct service lines, Site Assessment/Remediation, Ecology, and Cultural Resources and works on exciting projects including wetland permitting/delineation, threatened & endangered species surveys, cultural resource studies, industrial hygiene, environmental site assessment, remediation, redevelopment, and site renovation work for City and County agencies, school districts, commercial real property developers and managers, law firms, financial institutions, architect/engineer and construction (A/E/C) clients.
Demonstrate strong working knowledge of Texas regulatory programs and agencies, including the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC), and Texas Risk Reduction Program (TRRP). Experience managing projects involving petroleum storage tanks, site investigation and remediation, corrective action programs, waste management, and regulatory closure strategies is highly desirable. Maintain familiarity with federal environmental regulations, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), CERCLA/Superfund, Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), TSCA, and other applicable environmental compliance and remediation programs to support a broad range of public and private sector clients.
This position is for a career-level environmental management professional who will be responsible for overseeing a department of 10 to 15 employees with annual revenues of over $4.0 million. The chosen candidate will be responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating site testing, developing analytical testing plans, and making recommendations for design on projects varying in size and complexity. In this position, the successful candidate must have strong operational management/leadership skills as well as be able to identify, evaluate and recommend risk to ensure the firm's interests are protected and in compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Our selected candidate will lead the department by utilizing a formal growth plan, promoting training, and assigning and coordinating staff workload. A safety mindset is paramount and required.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting client development activities and working with our team to develop a book of business in diverse environmental services for the area.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Provide environmental support to our multiple services lines including geotechnical services, construction and building materials, and facilities.
  • Work as a team member and participate in business development pursuits.
  • Possess strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Understand and implement technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
  • Ability to make recommendations for conceptual designs based on technical data.
  • Ability to develop written proposals to clients for both small and large projects.
  • Experienced in evaluating, and synthesizing complex laboratory and field data, and assembly in written reports.
  • Serve as an inter-disciplinary team member in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
  • Perform site visits, field observations and field data collection with ability to collect detailed site observations and notes.
  • Mentor, supervise, and oversee staff environmental scientists and technicians.
  • Demonstrate leadership in and a commitment to follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects for incident and injury free operations.
  • Lead and participate in Pre-Task planning.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related science field and 10 years' related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 14 years' related experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience required, and previous managerial experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
  • Flexible work schedule, to ensure project timelines are completed.
  • Possess strong writing skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills using the Microsoft Office Suite.
