Description
Summary: Provides engineering support and design for all aspects of existing conveyor product line to ensure functionality, quality, cost, and schedule. Generate layout, assembly drawings, engineering change orders, and bill of materials. Will assist in the design of new product and special projects. Provide engineering assistance to sales, service, and manufacturing departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare sketches or complete detail and layout drawings from verbal and written instructions for complex products or equipment. Design and develop new models, mechanisms, or adaptations for a particular product or application.
Establish and monitor the product design within the schedule and budget parameters. Identifies any problems with the implementation or available resources that may affect the schedule or budget and communicates such problems accordingly.
Determine and establish specifications through engineering calculators, layouts, and testing.
Coordinate efforts with Supply Chain Management and outside suppliers, utilizing resources, information or assistance from suppliers. May design tooling, fixtures, or product components.
Maintain technical coordination with Engineering and design staff. Work assignments are typified by their complexity and non-routine nature where established techniques and procedures may not exist.
Perform complex and difficult design tasks requiring the operation and application of CAE equipment and software.
Interfaces with others in the organization and customers to jointly determine customer needs and solutions. Ability to contribute and work in a team environment.
Provide work leadership to lower level designers and other design engineers, reviewing their work for quality and accuracy.
Participation in new product development and testing, consultation and participation in R & D projects
Serves as a liaison between sales and engineering
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job does not have any subordinates that report to the position but when required may supervise drafters and designers on some phases of design.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Must be able to work independently with little supervision
Requires high degree of technical knowledge and skill
Requires extensive skill and knowledge of equipment, capabilities, application techniques, and design limitations
Basic familiarity with machine tools (not operation) required.
Position Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of Associate's degree (A. A.) in Engineering or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with at least five years of experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of SolidWorks Design software and Microsoft Office Word Processing software.
