Job description

Cardinal Operating Company is seeking a Maintenance & ICE Technical Trainer

Summary

Responsible for designing, delivering, and maintaining comprehensive training programs that support employee development and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards for Maintenance and ICE department employees. The specialist trains and certifies employees on new processes, PPE usage, equipment operation (including forklifts, scissor lifts, and powered mobile equipment), and quality standards. Will work closely with Plant management and other subject matter experts to facilitate the development and execution of such.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Recommends, designs, prepares, updates and organizes training sessions and content, completing and maintaining all training records and forms, writing and/or consulting on applicable procedures and training-related materials and assessments, completing assessments, and analyzing and identifying training gaps and opportunities.  
  • Trains, qualifies and certifies employees on new processes, personal protective equipment (PPE), test equipment and procedures, forklift, scissor lift, Powered Mobile Equipment, operational and quality/measurement requirements, standard work, tools and techniques.
  • Oversees inspections and analysis of equipment, operating and maintenance problems, determines root cause, implements improvements or corrective actions.
  • Fills in for Production Supervisors/Planners as needed.
  • Reviews manufacturers and trade catalogs, drawings and other data related to operation, maintenance and service of equipment.
  • Coordinates with vendors for both documentation and scheduling of onsite vendor-led training.
  • Maintains and recertifies all required PPE to include but not limited to: low and medium voltage gloves, ground sticks, grounds, and Hot sticks. 
  • Maintains and recertifies all Test Equipment to include but not limited to: Meggers, DLRO's, Hi-Pots, Multimeters, etc.
  • Develops and/or updates ICE/Maintenance operating and maintenance manuals, guidelines, assembly instructions, and procedures
  • Develops and ensures quality standards adherence to standard work and lean principles
  • Conducts jobsite or on-site coaching and development of employees (related to audits and/or to assist with work or jobs in crisis)
  • Conducts all testing for employees for promotion assessments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate degree in a technical-related field such as Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline.

Experience:

  • 8 years related power plant experience
  • Relevant on-the-job experience or education above and beyond that described above may be substituted for part of the experience and/or education requirement (e.g. Military Electrical/Electronics technical training or Electrical and Instrumentation Journeyman)

Abilities & Skills:

  • Proficient knowledge and ability to utilize Process Information (PI) Software, Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to understand the scope of work and clearly communicate to craft and plant personnel 
  • Ability to understand procedure and safety and environmental risks
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents and write technical reports
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both in writing and verbally with craft and Plant personnel
  • Ability to promote the safe, efficient, reliable operation of the plant

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; communicate with others to exchange information; and hear.  The employee must have close visual acuity to analyze data, perform inspections, and view computer monitors; and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment

This position could require working in extreme heat and cold both in inside and outside environments; environments containing fumes, odors, dust, gases, and high amounts of noise and vibration. Additionally, this position requires the ability to work in close quarters, narrow passageways, at heights, on grating, platforms and catwalks. Work outside normal business hours may be required.
