Job description

PURPOSE

Assists in scheduling other technician work and monitors a staff of designers/technicians.This individual is responsible to originate and check layout and design drawings for structural wood products and all items manufactured or supplied by the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with outside sales personnel and customers to safely and accurately complete structures with high quality.
  • Assigns work to technicians and ensures that tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Makes recommendations on hires, promotions, terminations, and performance evaluations within the department to the Senior Team Leader.
  • Maintains records of work performed by the team and communicates project progress to management.
  • Develops layout and design drawings from architectural drawings or sketches provided to the company. 
  • Makes phone calls to building designers or professionals to obtain or clarify information shown on blue line drawings.
  • Reviews and checks layout and design drawings prepared by less experienced truss/panel technicians and assists in making modifications prior to releasing drawings to the field or production.
  • May obtain information pertaining to products supplied by the company that have been field modified or damaged.  The information is summarized and given to a professional engineer to evaluate and complete repair drawings when required.
  • Analyzes technical data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Understands the building code and applies knowledge of special truss/panel industry issues.  Addresses issues appropriately.
  • Analyzes plans and diagrams, or observes and makes notes on material processing, to determine material and material processing specifications, or specifications for construction activities.
  • Writes technical descriptions specifying material qualities and properties.
  • Draws rough sketches or arranges for finished drawings or photographs to illustrate specified materials or assembly sequence.
  • May prepare truss repair drawings for review and approval by a professional engineer.
  • Implement BFS panel design standards and have all designers and panel design conform to these standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position acts as a team leader and directs the work of less-experienced technicians.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with PrimeCad, MS Word, MS Excel, and AutoCAD is required.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
