Position Overview:  
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician with a strong background in vacuum technology, mechanical assembly, and installation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the construction, maintenance, and installation of Emperion Vacuum Coating Systems with minimal supervision, ensuring high precision and attention to detail. 
 
Key Responsibilities:  
Assembly of Vacuum Coating Equipment:  
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, air schematics, build diagrams, and assembly instructions accurately. 
  • Handle and prepare vacuum mating surfaces and flanges, ensuring correct installation and surface preparation. 
  • Read vacuum gauges and apply basic principles of vacuum operation. 
  • Perform delicate assembly tasks involving high-precision sensor circuits and vacuum systems. 
  • Assemble mechanical, pneumatic, and vacuum parts according to provided training. 
  • Lift, carry, and install parts or assemblies weighing up to 50 lbs. 
  • Maintain tools, work area, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. 
 
Qualifications:  
  • Education and Experience:  
  • Associate degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the installation, maintenance, or service of vacuum coating systems, thin-film deposition equipment, or related machinery.  
  • Prior experience working in customer-facing roles, with a focus on providing excellent service and support.  
Technical Skills:  
  • Extensive knowledge of vacuum coating systems, including PVD, CVD, and sputtering technologies.  
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and vacuum components of coating systems.  
  • Experience with PLCs, electrical circuits, and control systems is a plus.  
  • Strong knowledge of vacuum pumps, chambers, seals, and valves.  
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams. 
  • Knowledge of vacuum flanges, surface preparation, and sealing techniques. 
  • Familiarity with vacuum gauges and pressure measurement. 
  • High hand–eye coordination and ability to perform fine, delicate operations. 
  • Basic understanding of component replacement procedures (a plus, not required). 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
Soft Skills:  
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with customers and team members.  
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.  
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.  
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and prioritize tasks effectively.  
 
Physical Requirements:  
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and parts (up to 50 lbs.).  
  • Ability to work in various environments, including manufacturing facilities, and industrial settings.
