Job Description:
Job Overview
This opening is for a highly skilled Assembly Operator IV working directly with fiber optics. This person will be a key member of our team and will be responsible for optical connector and cable assembly, termination of various configurations of fiber optic cable assemblies, test station set up for various cable assemblies, and advanced testing of cable assemblies. This individual will assist in process development and resolution of problems encountered in the process of bringing new optical products from concept to market. The position will also provide continuous improvement suggestions for the simplification of new products to reduce costs and increase overall manufacturing efficiency. The individual is to be a self-starter and have the ability to work well under schedule pressures and be able to balance workload as priorities change. Candidates need to have a strong work ethic with a desire to continually learn & with a concentrated focus on serving the Customer. The ideal candidate works well in teams, has the desire to learn, possesses strong hand-eye coordination, and maintains the attention to detail needed to make quality products for our customers. Every team member is responsible for maintaining housekeeping and organization of the work area, following safety guidelines and all TE Connectivity's policies and procedures.

Shift Hours:
1st: Mon-Thurs, 6am-4:30pm (Arden)
Primary responsibilities include:
• Polish and test fiber optic cables
• Assemble and package fiber optic connector components
• Operate fiber router & coating equipment (as needed)
• Complete over-molding processes (as needed)
• Support prototype product builds, test product builds, pre-release NPI builds (as needed)
• Measure components using calipers, gages, or other measuring devices.
• Complete necessary operational paperwork required to maintain the traceability of product.
• Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to equipment
• Understand and demonstrate cleaning methods and contamination assessment for optical assembly
• Perform advanced fiber optic cable and connector assembly, testing, and termination including various standard fiber optic termini as well new termini designs
• Perform IL/RL testing and visual inspection of single- and multi fiber assemblies
• Perform EFG & IPC (workmanship) checks on both single & multi-fiber termini
• Safely & efficiently operate equipment (E-Stop/Soft Stop) and identify issues
• Suggest and help implement process improvements to improve overall manufacturing efficiencies
• Communicate within a team atmosphere to ensure clarity of purpose & Customer satisfaction
• After training period of 30 days, works with minimal supervision and is proficient in providing timely and accurate products according to skills matrix
• Use of Fiber Optic & Electronic Test Equipment: Optical Power Meters, IL/RL Test, Oscilloscope, DMM (Digital Multi Meter), Variable Power Supplies, Variable Attenuators, Optical & RF Switch
• Train new and existing team members on products, process, and procedures.
• Inspect own work and products using quality standards, work instructions and prints.
• Accountability - takes responsibility for his/her own work. Respects confidential information and concerns shared by others.
• Available to work overtime and off-shifts to support production goals (as needed)
What your background should look like
• The ability to distinguish between color-coded fiber optic cables is an essential function of this position to ensure accurate assembly, installation, and quality standards.
• High School diploma or GED preferred
• Minimum of two 2 years of manufacturing experience, including at least one 1 year of fiber optic assembly manufacturing experience required.
• Proficient Hand-Eye Dexterity & Motor Skills for intricate/delicate work
• Working knowledge of hand tools and blueprint reading preferred
• Ability to work in a cleanroom environment and wear required PPE (gowns, shoe booties, hair nets, nitrile gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes)
• Available to work overtime to support production goals as needed.
• Must have good time management skills to work on numerous projects (sometimes simultaneously)
• Attention to Detail (following bill of material, job routers, and understanding drawings/prints)
• Team Oriented - will work effectively and cohesively with other employees to achieve required objectives and goals.
• Credibility - takes responsibility for his/her own work. Respects confidential information and concerns shared by others.
• A safe and quality conscious attitude and follow safety and quality requirements
• Experience using electronic testing equipment such as Oscilloscope, DMM (Digital Multi Meter), Variable Power Supplies preferred
• Excel skills to record, organize, & analyze data is preferred
• Some post high school technical courses are preferred
• Must be able to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to operate machinery
• Must be able to move between work zones
• Must be proficient and able to understand written instructions in English language
