Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Omaha, NE Industry: Manufacturing – Food Processing (aftermarket parts and equipment) Company Type: Private Equity Portfolio Company

Role Overview

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for creating drawings and specifications and performing calculations to design precision equipment for the food processing industry. To be considered for this role, you must have experience in the manufacturing industry in addition to a solid understanding of metal fabrication & welding practices.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for designing a complete project, system, component, and/or individual piece of custom equipment from concept to manufacturing and assembly.
  • Ability to reverse engineer machine parts or develop new machine parts as replacement parts for existing equipment and newly designed equipment.
  • Manage inventory and availability of purchased parts and raw materials for assigned design projects.
  • Research, design, evaluate, assemble, and test equipment and systems to ensure it meets customer requirements.
  • Coordinate and monitor assigned design projects from concept to manufacturing completion assisting as needed to ensure projects meet delivery timelines.
  • Design engineering utilizing SolidWorks to generate concept drawings, approval drawings, solid models, and a complete set of part and assembly drawings for fabrication and production.
  • Responsible for writing technical manuals, creating parts lists, exploded views, assembly directions and renderings for marketing.
  • Present design projects to peers or other Stone personnel for design review, to incorporate and discuss design specifications, and design sign off.
  • Collaborate with machining, fabrication and assembly in troubleshooting and innovating for future projects.
  • Evaluate equipment and manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience in an equipment manufacturing environment.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including strong listening skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects of all sizes simultaneously and work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs, experience in SolidWorks and data‑entry skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast‑paced and evolving work environment.
