Job description

Excelsior Mining AZ, Inc. dba Gunnison Copper has an immediate employment opportunity for a Lab Assay Technician at its operations at Johnson Camp Mine / Gunnison Project located in southeastern Arizona between the cities of Benson and Willcox.
Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager, the Lab Technician will perform a variety of routine analytical and physical testing on mining materials, research and development samples and finished products. This position will also make detailed observations and provide basic interpretation of data and accurate reporting of results.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform analysis for samples received from sample prep, mine, leach or Plant etc.
  • Provide instruction and priorities to sample prep operators.
  • Prepare and test reagents used for assays, to meet QA/QC controls to ensure assays are consistent and correct.
  • Perform operation, diagnostics, adjustments and calibrations of laboratory analytical equipment such as balances, digestors, hoods, shakers, centrifuges, dilutors, atomic absorption, titrators.
  • Train and develop assay technicians in all aspects of lab duties.
  • Perform daily determinations and assay reporting.
  • Work safely in accordance with company policies and MSHA requirements, identifying Hazards, develop pre-shift inspections and report any unsafe conditions.
  • Always wear and use proper PPE as per company policies and procedures.
  • Have and follow good laboratory practices to maintain a clean work area in accordance with standard lab practice and procedures.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas.
  • Provide feedback and support to mine, leach and SX plant whenever requested.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to lab equipment and keep it in optimal performance
  • Develop a culture of high performance and behaviors that are consistent with company values.
  • Prefer experience with sequential analysis and and mineral content analysis

Qualifications:
  • 0 - 4 years of experience
  • Must be proficient in math and possess knowledge of basic chemistry, lab equipment, instrumentation and related manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lab equipment, lab protocols and techniques appropriate to assigned areas
  • Ability to trouble-shoot normal level issues on bench tests
  • Proficiency with MS Office products โ€“ Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, required
  • Basic knowledge of safety procedures including personal protection equipment (PPE) and standard lab safety procedures
  • B.S. Chemistry, Engineering, Metallurgy, Geology or equivalent work experience in a laboratory environment.
