The Lactation Specialist is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation plans for the breastfeeding parent, and is fully collaborative with the patient and the patient's family & support system. Advocates for the breastfeeding family in preventing, recognizing and resolving breastfeeding difficulties while promoting improved breastfeeding outcomes. Participates in the coordination of lactation consultation, telephone triage and prenatal education as appropriate throughout the community health center.
Minimum qualifications: Associate's Degree in a health science, nursing, public health or a related field. One-two year's of medical office experience. Licensed Practical Nurse. Basic Life Support (BLS). Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
Preferred qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in a health science, nursing, public health or a related field. Three or more year's of experience in medical office or Federally Qualified Health Center. Registered Nurse.
Special Skills: Demonstrates advanced knowledge and ability to care for the breastfeeding family utilizing a developmental perspective and respect for the right of patients and their families. Competency in managed care process and understanding of referrals, prior authorizations, and insurer requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians and colleagues while advocating for the patient. Promotes breastfeeding friendly environment throughout the community health center.
