Position: Quarry Specialist
Reports to: Production Manager
Shift: 4am to 2 pm -10 hr shifts. Mon/Thur - Summer months and 6am to 4 pm 10 hr shifts. Mon/Thur - Winter months

What you'll be contributing:
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs a variety of duties in the quarry to ensure an appropriate amount of material is available for plant use as needed. Operates heavy equipment to extract, collect and transfer raw materials from the quarry to the plant. It is the responsibility of all employees at the Leamington plant to work in a safe manner. Employees are fully expected to engage in our See Stop Do culture following all safety procedures and proactively stopping the job and reporting unsafe conditions, hazards or concerns.
  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Performs various quarry duties regarding the extraction, collection and transfer of raw material from the quarry to the plant for use in production operations. Heavy equipment used includes a stacker, crusher, loader, dozer, track hoe, haul truck, ANFO truck, grader, jack hammer, water truck and conveyor belts. Abides by all safety policies and procedures in operating heavy equipment
  • Performs blasting to extract and loosen material from the ground.
  • Ensures dust is contained as much as possible in the quarry using water lines and the water truck to dampen dry, dusty areas.
  • Performs equipment inspections and requests the performance of maintenance and repair on quarry mobile equipment and other machinery used in quarry operations.
  • Performs cleanup duties on a continual basis.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

To succeed in this position, you will need:
  • High school graduation or equivalent is required
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience in the quarry working with heavy equipment is preferred
  • Training with blasting and shooting techniques is preferred
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Willingness to learn, training will be provided
  • Proficient in English written, verbal communication and listening skills
  • Knowledge of proper operation and safety precautions associated with aforementioned heavy mobile equipment and machinery. Knowledge of quarry equipment electrical systems, belt and bearing alignment, belt scrapers, and mechanical maintenance. Skills needed include attention to detail and safety precautions, problem solving, and communication skills
  • The ability to work long periods of time alone while doing repetitive tasks is required.
  • Ability to work safely with frequent exposure to job hazards such as explosives, dust, dirt, heat, cold, noise, and all weather conditions. Works around edges of high walls in the quarry. Usually works alone with one crew break and one crew lunch.

What to expect in a cement environment:
Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure. Work requires walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and working on rocky, uneven, and high areas.
