To thrive as an AS400 Test Analyst, you need a solid understanding of AS400 (IBM iSeries) systems, software testing methodologies, and often a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like IBM Rational, SQL, CL, RPG, and test management systems is typically required, along with ISTQB or similar testing certifications. AS400 Test Analysts often encounter challenges related to legacy system compatibility, data migration, and limited documentation during integration testing. To address these challenges, analysts typically work closely with developers, business analysts, and system administrators to clarify requirements, set up comprehensive test environments, and create detailed test cases. Proactive communication and leveraging automation tools specific to AS400 can also help streamline testing and ensure more effective defect detection.

What are AS400 Test Analysts?

Their primary responsibilities include designing test cases, executing tests, identifying bugs, and ensuring that applications function correctly on the AS400 environment. These analysts often work closely with developers and business analysts to validate functionality, performance, and integration of systems. They typically use tools and techniques suited for the AS400 system, such as RPG, CL, and DB2 testing. Thorough documentation and reporting of test results are also key parts of their role.
