Overview

Dunham's Sports, one of the largest full-line sporting goods chains in the U.S., was founded in 1937 as Dunham's Bait & Tackle. Today we have over 250+ stores in 23 Midwest states from Maryland to South Dakota.

We are seeking an Information Technology professional that has a desire to learn and grow in a fast paced organization. An understanding of the organizations business goals is essential as well as the ability to adapt and contribute to these goals. An intrinsic motivation for technology must be complimented with a genuine interest in the retail industry. Experience with logistics and distribution systems would be beneficial as well as practical exposure to marketing and advertising systems. The ability to analyze business processes, make improvements to the supporting systems, and be able to communicate this to both technical and non-technical audiences are key skills for a successful candidate.


Responsibilities

This position requires not only experience but a working familiarity with the IBM AS400. Must be able to gather and document requirements, and make proposals for enhancements. Must be able to work with subject matter experts to acquire knowledge and understanding of existing systems and processes and be able to utilize new found knowledge to provide technical solutions to business needs.

Must be able to design programming modifications to include considerations for database, screens, and reports. Must be able to develop and support programs written in RPG3, RPG-IV, RPG-ILE, RPG-Free, and CL. Candidate should be able to acquire new programming skills when needed without impacting project deadlines. A real understanding of quality assurance and the ability to create and execute formal test plans is required. In addition, the ideal candidate must be able to work with other departments, remote users, and vendors to execute a planned implementation. Project management skills are essential.

The willingness to work on older technology is an important trait. A successful candidate will be able to support AS400 software applications developed in past years with noticeable changes in programming technology. AS400 analysis skills are required as well as the motivation to solve real business needs with older technology.

Although the AS400 is the primary development platform a minimum proficiency is required for all general business tools like Microsoft Office. The ability to produce a meaningful and accurate flowchart is required for both business processes and programming flow. The candidate must be able to identify new technology tools and be able to acquire the skills needed to make productive use of these tools. The right person must be able to succinctly list alternatives when technical road blocks are encountered. This candidate should be able to utilize existing tools and resources to accomplish objectives and also know when to propose a solution outside of the box. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are mandatory. An understanding of current trends in retail technology is helpful.
