Description
The Blake School is currently seeking Lower School Substitute Teachers. Educators in this position will join a supportive and collaborative teaching community in a support role, substituting in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades on the Blake campus located in Hopkins, MN. This is an ideal position for an emerging or veteran teacher looking to develop a wide range of experience, leverage a flexible schedule or establish community connection. Candidates should have a minimum of a bachelor's degree and experience working in early childhood and/or elementary settings or an associate degree with significant experience. They also should have the ability to thrive in a dynamic and complex environment, as well as a thoughtful approach to education.
Responsibilities:
  • Substitute for absent staff members.
  • Assist and support the implementation of progressive, often emergent, curriculum.
  • Emphasize the collaborative, creative process of a group experience while also monitoring each individual's growth and performance within a classroom environment.
  • Provide differentiated attention to match student needs.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and lead teachers.

Requirements
  • Strong oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Google Docs, Classroom, and Zoom
  • Respect for children and their potential with a creative, joyful approach to learning and teaching
  • Ability to work well with children, families and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Approach to education that is thoughtful and balanced
  • Associate degree with significant experience; bachelor degree preferred; certification preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience working with elementary age children.
