Job description

Position Summary:

Contracted on a per-semester basis, the position will provide direct instruction to students by teaching classes, developing course outlines, assessing student progress, and utilizing the University's assigned technology to maintain appropriate records. Avila's Communication department offers undergraduate studies in Advertising and Public Relations, Film and Digital Media, and Sports Communications as well as a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication.

Responsibilities:

Teach Fundamentals of Communication (Multicultural Communication, Interpersonal, Group Dynamics, and Public Speaking) courses in innovative, engaging ways to help students learn and create a learning environment which encourages students to attend class regularly.

Apply dynamic teaching methods to current course offerings and develop a curriculum in strategic communication strategies.

Assign grades and assess student progress, potential and achievement in concrete, understandable ways to ultimately help each student progress toward their degree.

Lecture and teach the material presented in the course syllabus and outline in a professional and engaging manner.

Maintain appropriate records in an organized, efficient manner for every individual class taught, and have this information available for students at all times.

Cultivate Avila’s mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph through word and action.

Recognize, celebrate, and support a wide variety of cultures and unique differences among Avila’s students.

Qualifications:

Master's degree of Arts in Communication required.

Ideal candidates would possess a Public Relations or Advertising background and/or have relevant work experience in strategic communications, including social media, mobile and digital content creation, publication, and evaluation.

Background in Leadership and Entrepreneurship preferred.

Multi-lingual skills highly preferred.

Successful candidates should be committed to contributing to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and contributions to equity and social justice through their work.
