Job description

Art Leaders Gallery | West Bloomfield, Michigan
Part-Time | 20 Hours Per Week | $20/hour
Two Positions Available

Art Leaders Gallery is seeking two professional, dependable, and detail-oriented Art Preparators & Fine Art Installers to join our team.
This is a hands-on, client-facing position responsible for the safe handling, movement, delivery, and installation of fine art both within our gallery and in our clients’ homes and businesses. These individuals will serve as representatives of Art Leaders Gallery while on deliveries, pickups, and installations, making professionalism, appearance, communication, and respect for our clients and their homes just as important as technical ability.
While previous experience can be beneficial, we are willing to train the right candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic, professionalism, reliability, attention to detail, and a genuine willingness to learn.
This position will begin at approximately 20 hours per week, with the potential to grow into a larger or full-time role as the gallery continues to expand.
Schedule
The regular schedule will be:
  • Monday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Saturday: 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM
Some flexibility may occasionally be required based on client installations, deliveries, exhibitions, and gallery needs. Proper advance notice will be provided whenever schedule adjustments are necessary.

Starting Pay: $20/hour

There is potential for additional hours, increased responsibility, and advancement into a full-time position for the right individual.
Key Responsibilities
  • Hang, install, remove, and reposition artwork throughout the gallery.
  • Assist with gallery rotations, exhibitions, events, and installation of new inventory.
  • Safely handle, move, pack, unpack, and transport fine art of varying sizes, weights, and values.
  • Patch, sand, touch up, and paint walls following artwork moves and exhibition changes.
  • Maintain clean, professional gallery walls and installation areas.
  • Load and unload artwork for deliveries and installations.
  • Pick up and deliver artwork to clients’ homes, businesses, and other locations.
  • Professionally install artwork in client spaces using appropriate hardware and installation techniques.
  • Measure walls and determine proper placement, spacing, height, and alignment of artwork.
  • Work with a variety of wall surfaces and installation situations.
  • Protect clients’ floors, walls, furnishings, and property throughout the delivery and installation process.
  • Maintain tools, ladders, installation equipment, packing materials, vehicles, and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
  • Communicate professionally with clients while representing Art Leaders Gallery during pickups, deliveries, and installations.
  • Assist with other gallery operations and physical projects as needed.
All necessary tools and installation equipment will be provided by Art Leaders Gallery.

Qualifications & Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must:
  • Be able to safely lift and maneuver artwork and objects weighing more than 50 lbs., individually when appropriate and as part of a team for larger or heavier works.
  • Be comfortable working on ladders and at elevated heights when installations require it.
  • Have strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately measure, level, align, and position artwork.
  • Be comfortable learning to use hand tools, drills, levels, ladders, hanging hardware, and basic wall-repair and painting equipment.
  • Be willing and able to perform patching, sanding, painting, and general wall preparation.
  • Demonstrate exceptional care when handling fragile, valuable, or one-of-a-kind objects.
  • Be dependable, punctual, organized, and able to follow detailed instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, polished, and professional appearance at all times, particularly when entering clients’ homes and businesses.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with clients, gallery staff, interior designers, contractors, and other tradespeople.
  • Be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as part of a two-person installation team.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Be comfortable with a position that requires regular standing, lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, and other physical activity.
  • Be willing to complete a background check as a condition of employment.
  • Be willing to sign a confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) due to access to private client residences, collections, and gallery information.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who combines hands-on ability with professionalism, attention to detail, and excellent client service.
Because this position frequently involves entering private residences and handling valuable artwork, trustworthiness, discretion, professionalism, and respect for the client’s property are essential. Our installation team is often one of the final points of contact in a client’s purchasing experience, and we expect that interaction to reflect the same high level of service clients receive inside Art Leaders Gallery.
The right candidate does not necessarily need a background in fine art. We are prepared to provide training to someone who demonstrates a strong work ethic, reliability, professionalism, attention to detail, good judgment, and an eagerness to learn.
Candidates who demonstrate initiative, strong performance, and a commitment to the gallery’s standards will have opportunities to take on additional responsibilities and potentially transition into a full-time position as Art Leaders Gallery continues to grow.
