What is an armor guard?

Armor Guards are security professionals who are responsible for protecting valuable assets, such as money, jewelry, or sensitive documents, during transit or at secure facilities. They typically work for armored car services or security companies and are trained to handle high-risk situations, such as potential theft or robbery. Armor Guards often wear protective gear and may be armed, ensuring both the safety of the items they protect and their own personal safety. Their duties include picking up, transporting, and delivering valuables securely, maintaining detailed records, and following strict security protocols.

What does an armor guard do?

A typical day for an Armor Guard involves securing and transporting valuables, such as cash or important documents, between locations like banks, businesses, and ATMs. Armor Guards usually work as part of a team, with clear roles like driver and messenger, and maintain constant communication to ensure the safety of assets and personnel. Coordination with dispatchers, clients, and sometimes law enforcement is crucial, especially when planning routes or responding to emergencies. The job requires strong attention to detail, adherence to strict security protocols, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an armor guard?

To thrive as an Armor Guard, you need a solid understanding of security protocols, safe firearm handling, and a valid security license or firearms permit. Familiarity with armored vehicles, GPS tracking systems, and secure communication devices is typically required. Attention to detail, reliability, and strong situational awareness are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure the safe, efficient transport of valuables and to minimize security risks during transit.

What is the difference between Armor Guard vs Security Guard?

AspectArmor GuardSecurity Guard
CertificationsSecurity license, firearm permit (if applicable)Security license, firearm permit (if applicable)
Work EnvironmentHigh-risk areas, armored vehicle escort, cash transitBuildings, events, retail stores, corporate premises
Employer & Industry UsageSecurity companies, armored transport firmsSecurity firms, private companies, public venues

Armor Guards and Security Guards share similar certifications and often work in security roles. However, Armor Guards typically operate in high-risk environments like cash transit and armored vehicle escort, requiring specialized training. Security Guards work in a broader range of settings such as retail, corporate, and event security. Both roles are essential in the security industry but differ mainly in scope and environment.

How to get a job as an armor guard?

To become an armor guard, applicants typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, pass a background check, and complete security training or certification if required by the employer or jurisdiction. Relevant skills include attention to detail, physical fitness, and knowledge of security procedures; some positions may also require a valid security license or firearm permit.
