Job description

Under general supervision of the Operations Supervisor, Utility Systems the, Off Shift Foreman supervises the Off Shift Maintenance Mechanics and provides oversight to the 24/7 operations within the Facilities Division such as steam plant operations, chiller plant operations, and water treatment operations. This position is on an alternate work schedule covering nights and weekends and is 100% onsite.

Operational activities include but are not limited to the following:

Specific Duties

  • Monitors multiple SCADA and building control systems for alarms and acts on those alarms
  • Coordinates with all maintenance and utility foremen regarding off shift operations
  • Responds to all unplanned events at the site and acts as first responder for maintenance or utility concerns
  • Plans and prioritizes daily work assignments
  • Inspects machinery and equipment operations, and building systems in multiple locations
  • Conducts daily site rounds
  • Ensures staff are current on training and certifications
  • Provides oversight of work-in-progress ensuring compliance with safety standards
  • Communicates work or operation incidents immediately to the Operations Supervisor and to the Laboratory via the unplanned event notification system
  • Initiates Facility Event Notifications for planned and unplanned events as required

Position Requirements

  • The equivalency of an Associate degree with 3 years of experience or a minimum of 5 years experience as a maintenance mechanic.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to follow procedures and make decisions with minimal direction
  • Familiar with Building Automation Software (BAS) and SCADA systems such as Metasys and Rockwell.
  • Skills in oral and written communications in order to interpret management directives to employees
  • Leadership skills and ability to manage and mentor staff
  • Experience supporting 24/7 operations as required
