The area Operations Manager โ€“ Oversees daily operations for Martinez Steel, LLC's Southern California field installation activities based at the Fontana, CA facility, managing workflow, resource allocation, crew coordination, and performance to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality project execution across the Southern California market.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee day-to-day operations at and from the Fontana, CA fabrication facility including production scheduling, field crew coordination, logistics, and equipment management.
  • Implement and enforce company operational policies, standard operating procedures, and production standards.
  • Monitor Southern California operational KPIs including production volume, on-time delivery, cost performance, and safety metrics; develop and execute corrective actions when targets are not met.
  • Coordinate daily workflow between the Fontana fabrication plant, detailing department, Project Managers, field Superintendents, and Foremen.
  • Manage equipment scheduling, trucking coordination, and material staging for all Southern California project activities.
  • Ensure full compliance with Cal/OSHA regulations, California Labor Code, prevailing wage requirements, and company safety policies for all Fontana-based operations.
  • Support the Director of Operations โ€“ Southern CA in budget management, cost control, and regional performance reporting.
  • Participate in project pre-construction planning meetings to provide operational input on sequencing, resource needs, and production capacity.
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with Project Managers, Plant Manager, Safety Manager, and field leadership.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management of operations staff at the Fontana facility in coordination with HR.
Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the following minimum qualifications. Education, experience, and certifications listed represent the minimum required; equivalent combinations may be considered.

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum 6 years of construction or fabrication operations management experience; rebar, reinforcing steel, or structural specialty subcontracting preferred.
  • Experience managing multi-functional operations in a fabrication plant and field construction environment.
  • Strong knowledge of California Labor Code, Cal/OSHA Title 8, prevailing wage requirements, and union labor relations.
  • Proven organizational, problem-solving, and leadership capabilities in a fast-paced operations environment.
  • Proficiency with operations management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Based at the Fontana, CA fabrication facility with regular travel to active construction jobsites throughout Southern California. Work includes exposure to fabrication plant environment; PPE required in plant and field settings.
