Job description

The Test Department's role is to identify all issues within our products before we launch them.  As such, the Senior Protocol Development Test Engineer (Sr. PDTE) will be the pioneers of innovation by ensuring our new technologies meet the high demands of our consumers.  The position focus is on developing new test. By standing as the voice of the consumer it will be the job of the Sr. PDTE to identify new methods of testing as it relates to performance and safety of the product. There is a high degree of interaction with the Engineering and Product Development teams in this role which will require the Sr. PDTE to stand strong for the quality of the product while challenging cross functional design assumptions. 

Responsibilities 

  • You will represent the voice of the consumer by developing protocols/tests that evaluate product requirements against targets set by Product Development. 
  • Act as the protocol/test/safety/performance standards "expert" for cross-functional team member questions and concerns. 
  • Ability to identify and work with Internal/External SMEs across multiple engineering disciplines. 
  • Present status of activities and special projects to senior/executive management regularly. 
  • Takes a lead role (independently and in teams) to solve technical issues found in the development of a product. 
  • Mentors more junior team members, support all team members and encourages their efforts. 
  • Collaborate to help establish a project's user design, and functional requirements by delivering robust test protocols, then helping to validate through testing and building consensus on next steps. 
  • Takes ownership of protocol development throughout conception, CAD execution, prototyping and verification, whilst consistently working at a fast pace & successfully develops team to do the same. 
  • Works closely with our Engineering teams on design approaches to create testing rigs to evaluate product performance. 
  • Collaborates seamlessly with our UK, BOS, AL, and China based Product Development teams to ensure that great ideas make it through to production. 
  • Request and/or run competitive product analyses, giving your business partners insight into how Shark stacks up against the competition. 
  • Request and analyze market research to identify consumer real world behaviors. 

Requirements 

  • BSEE, BSME or similar technical discipline major 
  • 5+ years of product test engineering experience 
  • Prior experience designing or analyzing electromechanical systems 
  • Ability to design and assemble full scale test fixtures 
  • Data analysis around general statistics (Tukey Range, T-tests, etc.) 
  • Excellent oral and written communication to create reports, write business correspondence, & develop procedures 
  • Change agent with energy, passion, and enthusiasm to drive change 
  • Analytical, problem solving, and root-cause analysis skills 
  • Ability to multi-task and handle tasks with competing priorities effectively 
  • Proficient in all MS Office 
  • Knowledge of setting up Design of Experiments.

  • Experience using JIRA or other project management tools 
  • Experience using Minitab or equivalent stats software 
  • 3D Modeling 
  • Model shop experience 
  • Experience with any of the following: Arduino, RaspberryPi, scripting (including Python)Â
