Test Technician

Since 1934, Stabilus has offered components for diverse applications. Since then, we have continued to establish our pioneering role: With a wide range of applications, our unique product range and decades of experience, we are the world's leading manufacturer of solutions based on gas springs, dampers and electromechanical drives.

Job Summary:

This position will be located in Sterling Heights, MI and provides both electrical and mechanical services in support of product and application development.

Essential Job Functions:

·         Execute product and application tests according to Stabilus or customer procedures

·         Construct advanced level testing systems

·         Set up and execute environmental durability testing using CAN tools

·         Operate diagnostic equipment

·         Design assemblies or systems to meet operational specifications or tolerances

·         Train others to install, use or maintain testing systems.

Education, Training, Certifications:

·         Two-year technical degree or equivalent work experience required.

Experience:

·         One year experience in a mechanical or electronics related field or at least five years’ experience in a mechanical or electronics related field.

Job Knowledge and Skills:

·         Familiar with Vehicle Spy and Vector CAN tools

·         MIG/TIG welding

·         Fabrication and basic machining

·         Connector/Breadboard soldering

·         Arduino programming

·         Environmental chamber programming

·         Wire harness fabrication

·         Use of electrical diagnostic equipment including oscilloscope, DMM, etc...

·         PC Operation including MS Office and diverse testing software

·         Programming of laboratory systems such as Lab View, Daisy Lab Software or PLC’s

·         Design and implementation of mechanical actuators including pneumatics, hydraulics, gear-drives, springs, etc...

·         Troubleshoot analog and digital control systems utilizing, microprocessors, relays, DC motors, feedback sensors

·         Integration of measurement sensors including Hall effect, accelerometers, strain gauges, force transducers, optical encoders, LVDT, current sensors, etc...

·         Maintains good housekeeping and safety practices

·         Read and interpret engineering drawings and electrical schematics

·         Sound theoretical understanding of fundamental mechanical and electrical principles

·         Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others

Working Condition:

·         Testing at extreme conditions requires exposure to -30oC and 80oC for limited periods of time

·         Test Technician must be capable of managing mobile equipment, each piece weighing up to 50 lbs.

·         Daily travel required to local customers, possible out of state travel

·         Test Technician must be capable of removing and replacing gas springs in vehicle applications

Accountability:

·         Accountability: Works individually and as a team member with sales, engineering and other departments to reach company objectives

·         Impact of Errors: Will lead to delays in design release and problem resolution, and in severe cases, drive poor design decisions

·         Confidential Data: All test data is required to remain confidential according to Customer Agreements and Stabilus policy
