What does an Architectural Designer Project Manager do?

An Architectural Designer Project Manager is responsible for both designing building projects and managing their execution from concept to completion. This role combines creative architectural design work with project management duties, such as budgeting, scheduling, coordinating with clients, consultants, and contractors, and ensuring compliance with building codes. They often serve as the main point of contact between the design team and stakeholders, overseeing the entire lifecycle of a construction project to ensure it meets the desired vision, quality standards, and timeline.

How does an Architectural Designer Project Manager typically balance creative design work with project management responsibilities?

Architectural Designer Project Managers often juggle both creative and managerial duties, requiring strong time management and organizational skills. They collaborate closely with design teams to develop innovative solutions while also coordinating schedules, budgets, and client communications to keep projects on track. Balancing these tasks involves setting clear priorities, delegating effectively, and using project management tools to ensure deadlines are met without compromising design quality. This dual role provides valuable experience in both design leadership and operational oversight, which can open doors to more senior positions in architecture or project management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Architectural Designer Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Architectural Designer Project Manager, you need expertise in architectural design, project management principles, and typically a degree in architecture or a related field, often supported by licensure or certification. Familiarity with design software like AutoCAD, Revit, and project management tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera is crucial. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate teams, manage client expectations, and navigate project challenges. These combined abilities ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet both functional and aesthetic goals.

Are you a visionary architect ready to lead bold, complex projects from concept to completion?

We’re seeking a Senior Architectural Designer / Project Architect to join our growing team, a strategic and creative leader who thrives at the intersection of design excellence, innovation, and project management.

As a key member of our practice, you’ll guide multiple large-scale architectural projects, mentor emerging designers, and partner closely with clients to bring ideas to life. This is a high-impact role offering the opportunity to influence firm direction, advance design standards, and deliver projects that make a lasting mark on the built environment.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and oversee all phases of architectural design for multiple projects; from concept development to construction administration.

• Manage client relationships, project budgets, schedules, and team performance to ensure seamless project delivery.

• Collaborate across disciplines, engaging with consultants, engineers, and contractors to develop integrated, sustainable design solutions.

• Prepare and present design concepts to clients, securing alignment on vision and execution.

• Review and approve submittals, specifications, and construction documentation to maintain design integrity and compliance.

• Conduct code and zoning research, ensuring that every detail meets safety, environmental, and aesthetic standards.

• Contribute to business development by preparing proposals, estimating fees, and helping grow client partnerships.

• Inspire and mentor project teams, fostering a collaborative, forward-thinking studio culture.

Requirements:

What You Bring

• Professional degree in Architecture (NAAB-accredited) and active architectural license.

• 8–12 years of progressive experience in design and project leadership, managing complex assignments.

• Expertise in Revit, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and industry software such as Procore or PlanGrid.

• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to lead client meetings and guide high-performing teams.

• Exceptional project management skills, balancing creativity with technical precision and accountability.

• Passion for design excellence and continuous learning.

Preferred: Master’s Degree, dual credentials in Architecture/Interior Design, or certifications in LEED, WELL, or sustainable design.

Why Join Us

At Hendrick, you’ll find more than a drawing board. You’ll find a platform for leadership, collaboration, and innovation. You’ll work with talented peers, engage with diverse clients, and play a direct role in shaping the growth of a forward-thinking firm committed to design excellence and professional development.

If you’re ready to take your architectural career to the next level, we invite you to apply and help us build what’s next.
