What is an architectural associate?

Architectural Associates are early-career professionals who support architects in designing, planning, and overseeing the construction of buildings and structures. They typically assist with drafting plans, creating 3D models, conducting research, and preparing project documentation. While they often have a degree in architecture or a related field, they may still be working toward licensure. Architectural Associates gain practical experience under the supervision of licensed architects, helping them develop the skills necessary to advance in the field. Their role is crucial for ensuring projects meet design standards, codes, and client needs.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an architectural associate?

To thrive as an Architectural Associate, you need a solid understanding of architectural design principles, drafting, and building codes, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in architecture or a related field. Proficiency with tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite is essential, and LEED accreditation or other certifications can be advantageous. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams. These skills and qualifications ensure you can contribute to innovative, compliant designs and successful project delivery.

How does an architectural associate collaborate with senior architects and other team members during a project?

As an Architectural Associate, you will work closely with senior architects, engineers, and other design professionals throughout all phases of a project. Your responsibilities often include preparing drawings, conducting research, and attending project meetings to ensure that designs meet client requirements and regulatory standards. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as you’ll be expected to provide input, incorporate feedback, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders to keep projects on track. This collaborative environment provides valuable learning opportunities and helps you build relationships that are important for career advancement in the field.

What is the difference between Architectural Associate vs Architectural Designer?

Architectural Revit Technician

BERNARDO WILLS

Spokane, WA • On-site

$65K - $85K/yr

Full-time

Job description

Description

We're looking for someone who loves Revit because they love buildings - not the other way around.

Some people love designing buildings.

Some people love figuring out how buildings actually go together.

If you're the kind of person who enjoys taking a sketch, a concept, or a set of markups and turning them into a coordinated, accurate Revit model, we'd love to meet you.

At Bernardo Wills, we believe great buildings deserve great documentation. That's why we're looking for someone who enjoys the craft of modeling because it's deeply satisfying to get it right.

You'll work alongside architects and landscape architects on projects throughout the Inland Northwest while helping produce construction documents that contractors can confidently build from.

What You'll Do

Build and maintain accurate Revit models throughout all phases of design.

Produce high-quality construction documents.

Coordinate architectural models with engineering consultants.

Develop details, plans, elevations, sections, schedules, and drawing sheets.

Help identify conflicts before they become problems in the field.

Collaborate closely with architects and project managers to transform ideas into buildable solutions.

You're Probably a Great Fit If...

You genuinely enjoy modeling. You understand that every wall, roof, connection, and detail represents something that someone will eventually build. You appreciate precision, notice inconsistencies, enjoy solving technical puzzles, and take pride in creating organized, coordinated drawing sets. You don't need to be the person making every design decision-you enjoy being the person who helps make great design possible.

Why Bernardo Wills?

We don't believe production work is "less than" design. We believe it's a profession in its own right.

The best Revit modelers don't simply draft what someone tells them. They understand the building, anticipate problems, ask thoughtful questions, and help projects succeed long before construction begins.

We believe technical excellence is every bit as valuable as design excellence. Some professionals express their creativity through concepts. Others express it through precision, coordination, and craftsmanship. We celebrate both.

You'll work on a wide variety of commercial and public projects, collaborate with experienced professionals across multiple disciplines, and continue developing your technical expertise in an environment that values craftsmanship, teamwork, and continual improvement.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
