What is an architectural associate?

Architectural Associates are early-career professionals who support architects in designing, planning, and overseeing the construction of buildings and structures. They typically assist with drafting plans, creating 3D models, conducting research, and preparing project documentation. While they often have a degree in architecture or a related field, they may still be working toward licensure. Architectural Associates gain practical experience under the supervision of licensed architects, helping them develop the skills necessary to advance in the field. Their role is crucial for ensuring projects meet design standards, codes, and client needs.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an architectural associate?

To thrive as an Architectural Associate, you need a solid understanding of architectural design principles, drafting, and building codes, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in architecture or a related field. Proficiency with tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite is essential, and LEED accreditation or other certifications can be advantageous. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams. These skills and qualifications ensure you can contribute to innovative, compliant designs and successful project delivery.

How does an architectural associate collaborate with senior architects and other team members during a project?

As an Architectural Associate, you will work closely with senior architects, engineers, and other design professionals throughout all phases of a project. Your responsibilities often include preparing drawings, conducting research, and attending project meetings to ensure that designs meet client requirements and regulatory standards. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as you’ll be expected to provide input, incorporate feedback, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders to keep projects on track. This collaborative environment provides valuable learning opportunities and helps you build relationships that are important for career advancement in the field.

Job description

Who You Are
You are a seasoned Cloud Architect. You own the operational build-and-run, the Principal Architect owns technical architecture and design, and the Practice Manager owns strategy and go-to-market.
About The Role
The Senior AWS Managed Services Engineer builds out and operates Myriad360's AWS managed service offering in collaboration with the AWS Practice Manager, Principal Architect, and Managed Services team, owning the operational build-and-run of a service designed to grow and scale.
This role has a dual mandate. First, build and operate the managed service: the incident management, service desk, monitoring, automation, and reporting that make it run day to day. Second, own AWS MSP Program certification, including the self-assessment, evidence collection, and audit readiness required to achieve and maintain designation.
The role starts hands-on, building and operating the service. As the practice scales, there is a clear path to lead the managed services team you help create.
Must be based in the United States.
Other responsibilities include:
  • Stand up and run incident management: identification, logging, categorization, prioritization, investigation, playbooks, resolution, and closure.
  • Build and operate the service desk and support model, including AWS Support plan coverage for partner-owned and customer-owned accounts.
  • Define and manage SLAs and service-level management.
  • Implement event management, dynamic monitoring, observability, and predictive monitoring / AIOps.
  • Author operational runbooks and automation to run the service repeatably.
  • Establish service continuity, disaster recovery, and backup processes.
  • Build FinOps reporting and financial planning into the managed service.
  • Set up personnel onboarding and the operational process documentation required to run and audit the service.
  • Own AWS MSP Program certification: build the service to meet MSP Program requirements and own the self-assessment, evidence collection, and audit readiness.
  • Build the customer service-management machinery (reporting, service-review cadence, escalation paths) and run key service reviews.
  • Use AI and automation to operate and scale the service, leveraging AI/ML platforms to help resolve tickets, surface anomalies, and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Help build and, over time, lead the AWS managed services operations team.

Desired skills and experience:
  • Experience operating an AWS managed service or MSP practice, hands-on with the service-delivery disciplines above.
  • Experience building repeatable managed services capabilities, operational processes, and service delivery models.
  • Experience contributing to an AWS MSP Program audit or a similar operational audit is a strong plus.
  • Experience within a Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment strongly preferred.
  • General familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001, and a security-aware approach to operations (security policies, event logging, awareness training) preferred.
  • Experience driving cloud modernization and AI-enabled operational transformation initiatives preferred/
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform preferred.

Required Certifications
  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate

Preferred Certifications
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner
  • ITIL Foundation or higher
  • AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer - Associate
  • AWS Certified Security - Specialty
  • AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty
