What is Agency with Choice (AWC)?

The Agency with Choice (AWC) Program is a DDS program model for individuals and families to have an increased level of self-determination through both the choice and design of the service that they select while an individual resides in their home. The Arc of Opportunity acts as the Agency that partners with and supports these individuals and their families that wish to share the responsibilities of selecting their support staff and directing their day-to-day activities. AWC offers a co-employment model in which the Arc of Opportunity is the employer of record, assisting the family with the training and management of support professionals. The Arc of Opportunity supports the family by managing personnel policies and responsibilities, while the participant and family retain the responsibility for the daily supervision of the employee (AWC Direct Support Professional).

What does an AWC Direct Support Professional do?

As an AWC Direct Support Professional, you will be responsible for assisting and supporting an individual to develop and practice the skills necessary to pursue opportunities in the community that interest and benefit them. Your key duties will include:

1. The implementation of Individual Support Plans for individuals based on assessments, objectives, and goals.

2. The tracking and reporting of data related to goals and objectives.

3. Actively advocating for the individual with which you are working, and assist them in accessing community resources that will empower them and enhance their quality of life.

4. Attend mandatory trainings and meetings as assigned and required. Maintain all required certifications, including CPR and CPI.

Qualifications and Skills:

ยท Must pass background checks and pre-employment screenings including TB test and CORI.

ยท High School Diploma required

ยท Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office, email communication, internet, ADP payroll app

ยท Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with program participants and fellow staff

ยท Compassionate, resourceful, and eager to learn.

ยท Able to use creative problem-solving skills and work independently when needed.

ยท Physical demands may include frequent standing, pushing, pulling, walking, stooping, lifting and/or twisting

ยท Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicles meeting state requirements.
