This is a rewarding, hands-on career for someone who enjoys working outdoors and making a lasting impact on the community. You'll help shape and care for the City's urban forest while improving public spaces for residents. This is a physically demanding role that involves working in a variety of outdoor conditions and using a variety of tools and equipment associated with tree care, landscaping, and forestry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate tree care, planting, and urban forestry initiatives.
- Assess tree health and determine maintenance, preservation, or removal needs.
- Perform and oversee hands-on tree care using industry-standard tools and equipment.
- Guide and support forestry team members to ensure safe, high-quality work.
- Engage the community through outreach, educational programs, and public events.
- Maintain tree inventories, project records, and related documentation.
- Represent the City at public meetings, community events, and professional gatherings.
Qualifications
- Two years experience in arbor service.
- Must have a valid Kentucky driver's license, with the ability of getting a Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of employment.
- Kentucky Department of Agriculture Pesticide Category 3 license, or ability to achieve within 60 days of employment.
- Certified Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture, or ability to achieve within 12 months of employment.
Education
- Associate's degree in Forestry, Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field, plus four years of experience in tree care, landscaping, or forestry.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
