Job description

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Telecom/SUE Technician in in one of the posting locations below. Qualified candidates will work with our Utility Engineering Team in the locating, mapping, construction monitoring, drafting, design, and permitting of telecommunications and utility projects. Job duties will include performing site visits, preparing civil based utility drawings, as well as occasionally assisting with permits. We are willing to train the right candidate to develop into an important member of our team.
Posting Locations: Charlotte, NC; Frisco, TX; Lisle, IL; or St. Louis, MO
What You’ll Do:
  • Complete site visits including but not limited to utility locating, GIS mapping, documenting existing conditions, and manhole mapping
  • Visit construction sites to monitor contractor safety and provide quality control to ensure the project is being built as specified in the plans and specifications
  • Observe and document as-built conditions
  • Provide office support for telecommunications and other utility projects using AutoCAD or other design software
  • Occasionally travel overnight
What You’ll Need:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of relevant experience as a technician
  • Great attitude, willingness to learn, and a team player.
  • This position typically has work that is performed in both an office environment and in the field on construction site.
  • Valid driver's license and be insurable under company insurance
  • Ability to work outside in a wide variety of weather and terrain conditions
  • Ability to regularly lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/ or move up to 100 pounds. This role requires lifting, stooping, bending, stretching, walking, standing, climbing, pushing, pulling, and other physical exertion.
  • Encourages and supports a safety-oriented culture.

  • Associates Degree in Pre-engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, etc. or Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • Experience in telecommunications, fiber optic, or utility design or construction

  • Experience in Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) locating and/or surveying
  • Familiarity with utility atlases/records and/or GIS programs
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation or ARAMIS
