What is an Arabic translation manager?

Arabic Translation Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the translation of documents, websites, and other content from various languages into Arabic and vice versa. They coordinate translation projects, manage teams of translators, ensure linguistic accuracy, and maintain the cultural relevance of translated materials. These managers also develop workflows, maintain translation quality standards, and often handle communication with clients or stakeholders to meet project objectives. Their role is crucial in bridging language barriers and facilitating effective communication for organizations operating in Arabic-speaking markets.

What are some common challenges faced by Arabic translation managers when overseeing multilingual projects?

Arabic Translation Managers often encounter challenges related to managing consistency and quality across multiple dialects of Arabic, as well as aligning translations with the cultural context of target audiences. Coordinating between translators, editors, and subject matter experts can be complex, especially when deadlines are tight or project requirements change. Additionally, ensuring that terminology remains accurate and up-to-date across large volumes of content requires strong organizational skills and effective use of translation management tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Arabic translation manager?

To thrive as an Arabic Translation Manager, you need fluency in Arabic and English, deep knowledge of translation theory, and experience managing translation projects, often supported by a degree in translation, linguistics, or a related field. Familiarity with computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, localization management systems, and relevant certifications (such as ATA) is typically required. Strong organizational skills, cultural sensitivity, and leadership are crucial soft skills for overseeing teams and ensuring quality. These skills ensure accurate, culturally appropriate translations and efficient project delivery in multilingual environments.

Department: Wish Team

Status: Full-time, Exempt (with benefits)

Language: Professional proficiency in Spanish or Arabic

Location: Southfield, Michigan

About Make-A-Wish Michigan

At Make-A-Wish Michigan, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses - wishes that bring hope, strength, and joy when families need it most. Founded in 1984, our work is driven by compassion, creativity, and the belief that a single wish can be a powerful turning point.

Together with our staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners, we are united by one purpose: to make the impossible possible, one wish at a time. We are committed to a workplace where diverse perspectives are valued and every team member feels respected, supported, and connected to our mission.

The Opportunity

The Bilingual Wish Coordinator manages a caseload each year and serves as a primary point of contact for families who communicate in English and either Spanish or Arabic. You will guide families through each stage of the wish process, communicate sensitive and time-sensitive information with clarity and compassion, and ensure every detail is handled thoughtfully.

Working with healthcare professionals, volunteers, donors, vendors, and community partners, you will coordinate complex logistics while creating a consistent, culturally responsive experience for each child and family. This role requires professional proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English and either Spanish or Arabic.

Compassionate service across languages and cultures. This is an opportunity to guide families through one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives while providing clear, culturally responsive communication in English and either Spanish or Arabic. You will combine empathy, organization, sound judgment, and language skill to make each wish journey feel personal, safe, and extraordinary.

What You Will Make Possible

Wish Family Guidance & Case Management

  • Manage, plan, and execute a caseload of approximately 60-80 wishes annually from initial engagement through completion and closure.
  • Serve as a consistent, compassionate point of contact for wish children and families, setting clear expectations and providing timely updates throughout the journey.
  • Communicate directly with families in English and either Spanish or Arabic, accurately conveying meaning, tone, next steps, and important requirements.
  • Use reflective listening, sound judgment, and crisis-informed communication when supporting families navigating sensitive or high-stress circumstances.
  • Build trusted relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, confidentiality, and respect for each family's unique needs.

Wish Planning & Execution

  • Coordinate all aspects of each wish, including transportation, accommodations, services, medical considerations, volunteers, vendors, itineraries, and special experiences.
  • Develop detailed plans that balance the child's vision with safety, timing, budget, national standards, and liability requirements.
  • Anticipate challenges, troubleshoot changing circumstances, and identify creative solutions that protect the quality and integrity of the wish experience.
  • Secure and steward in-kind donations when appropriate to maximize impact and responsibly manage organizational resources.

Documentation, Compliance & Stewardship

  • Complete and maintain accurate, timely wish documentation and case records in Salesforce.
  • Track milestones, approvals, expenses, deadlines, and required forms to ensure wishes move forward safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure each wish complies with Make-A-Wish America standards, organizational procedures, confidentiality expectations, and liability requirements.
  • Manage individual wish budgets responsibly and communicate proactively when needs, timing, or costs change.
  • Document case activity accurately in English and prepare routine family communications in Spanish or Arabic, using approved interpretation or translation resources when specialized support is required.

Collaboration & Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, volunteers, donors, in-kind partners, vendors, and internal teams to create coordinated and meaningful wish experiences.
  • Represent Make-A-Wish Michigan at events and serve as a liaison and source of support for wish families in attendance.
  • Contribute to special projects, process improvements, and team initiatives that strengthen the experience of wish families.
  • Build positive relationships with diverse constituents and communicate in a professional, responsive, and mission-centered manner.
  • Help the organization strengthen access and trust with multilingual families by sharing cultural and communication insights with the Wish Team.

The responsibilities above describe the essential functions of the role and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties.
