We are hiring a Boilermaker/Welder to work industrial boilers and pressure vessels across the greater Phoenix market and the surrounding territory. This is field work - retubes, tube replacements, pressure part repairs, and code welding performed in live plants and mechanical rooms rather than in a fabrication booth. You will work on firetube and watertube boilers across manufacturing, food and beverage, healthcare, and institutional accounts, often on compressed outage windows where the customer's plant is down and waiting on you. The work is demanding, the standard is absolute, and the people who do it well are treated accordingly.
What You'll Be DoingPerforming pressure vessel and pressure part welding to ASME code on industrial firetube and watertube boilers.
Executing boiler retubes and tube replacements - removal, prep, fit-up, rolling, seal welding, and final testing.
Carrying out National Board "R" stamp repairs and alterations, working strictly within qualified weld procedures and documenting the work to code.
Repairing waterwall tubes, headers, drums, furnace sections, and related pressure components.
Fitting and layout - reading drawings and isometrics, taking field measurements, and cutting and prepping material with torch, plasma, or grinder.
Rigging and material handling in tight mechanical rooms, including confined space entry under permit.
Supporting hydrostatic testing and third-party inspection, and standing behind your welds when the inspector shows up.
Traveling within the territory and working outage and shutdown schedules, including nights and weekends when the plant window requires it.
Requirements
What You BringThe two non-negotiables are ASME certification and real pressure vessel experience. Structural and general fabrication welding is honorable work and a different discipline; this role sits on the code side of that line and will not cross back.
Current ASME Section IX weld qualification, with the ability to test and qualify on our procedures.
Demonstrated pressure vessel and pressure part welding experience on industrial equipment - boilers, vessels, headers, or piping built to ASME Section I or Section VIII.
Strong SMAW and GTAW capability on carbon steel, including root passes that pass radiographic or ultrasonic inspection. 6G qualification strongly preferred.
Boilermaker fundamentals: tube rolling and expanding, fit-up, layout, and cutting.
Ability to read and work within a Welding Procedure Specification without drifting outside qualified parameters.
Working knowledge of confined space entry, hot work permitting, LOTO, and the safety discipline that keeps field crews intact.
Physical capability for the reality of the job - confined spaces, elevated work, heat, and extended time in awkward positions.
Valid driver's license and a clean motor vehicle record.
Nice to HaveStainless steel and chrome-moly (P11, P22, P91) experience.
FCAW and GMAW capability alongside stick and TIG.
Prior work for an ASME "R" or "S" stamp holder.
NCCER certification, OSHA 10 or 30, rigging and signal person certification, or aerial and forklift certifications.
Boilermaker apprenticeship completion, union or non-union.
Experience leading a small crew on outage work.
Benefits
The target range is $45 - 55 per hour, depending on certification depth, process range, and pressure vessel history. Overtime is paid and outage work generates a meaningful amount of it - the hourly rate understates what this role actually earns over a year. Per diem is provided on out-of-town assignments. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.
