Job description

Pre-Sort Machine Sweeper

Work Location: 672 Crescent St. Brockton, MA

Division/Department: Pre-Sort Area – Letters or Flats

Reports to: Production Manager

Part-time – 25 hours - Nonexempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support a high-speed mailing machine processing customers' daily letters and flats
  • The sweeper works at the complete direction of the machine operator completely focusing on being alert for anything that would slow or interrupt machine production.
  • Be responsible for one side of the machine's output, clearing jams and loading postal mail containers
  • Notify the machine operator immediately if there is any problem or fault that you see or suspect to be causing a problem with throughput, coding, or marking, of mail.
  • "Sweep" machine bins paying close attention to proper facing and clear addressing and Imb code printing; be familiar with USPS templates which set requirements for processing successfully
  • Apex mail is swept from the bins and placed directly above or below in the proper zip coded trays
  • PTI trays are marked and color-coded directly across from the machine output trays.
  • Watch and check all sorted mail for proper coding, fan mail to look for "stick mail" which causes unmarked mail.
  • Prepare full mail trays with sleeves and tray tags, replace work out tag holders, remove old tags, load full trays to conveyor system.
  • Empty "reject mail" bin frequently
  • Assist primary operator when requested by helping to load input conveyor deck by properly facing mail to assure continuous throughput
  • Minor work station housekeeping duties
  • Keep walkways clear and free of debris or any slip or trip hazards
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Utilize company software as required to perform the job
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary teamwork
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Shows initiative to learn additional duties; willing to expand value to the company
  • Working towards high school diploma, GED, or Trade School

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone and in person
