A Day in the Life: Aerospace Gear Machining Apprentice

Location: Downer's Grove, IL | Industry: Aerospace Manufacturing

Picture starting your night shift alongside seasoned machinists in a dedicated Hobbing & Shaping Department. You’ll step up to precision equipment, observe expert setups, and practice the fundamentals of gear machining with guided, hands-on instruction. Each shift, you’ll build confidence as you learn how gears are shaped and hobbed for critical aerospace applications.

What You’ll Experience
  • Immersive, on-the-job training in precision gear machining
  • Progressive exposure to hobbing and shaping operations
  • Daily mentorship from experienced machinists on specialized equipment
  • Real career-building momentum in a union shop
Compensation & Schedule
  • Pay: $20.00–$26.00 per hour (competitive and based on experience)
  • Shift Differential: 10% for 2nd shift
  • Schedule: Night shift
  • Status: Union position
