Police Service Assistant Apprentice (Contract Position) Salary: $19.23 upon contract for Police Service Assistant Apprentice FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department: Police Department/Patrol Division Employment Status: Temporary Contract Position

Lake Havasu City offers two pathways into this rewarding public safety career: the Police Service Assistant Apprentice, a temporary contract training position, and the Police Service Assistant, a regular City employee position. Both roles provide valuable experience supporting law enforcement operations while serving the community.

Whether you're beginning your public safety career as an Apprentice or as a Police Service Assistant, you'll help deliver exceptional service to the community through non-emergency response, investigations, community engagement, and operational support.

What You'll Do

Every day brings something different. In this role, you will:

  • Responds to non-emergency or delayed calls from the public that may not require the presence of a sworn police officer and gathers information by interviewing victims, witnesses, and reporting parties
  • Assists with traffic control, minor noninjury collision investigation, takes statements, and completes related reports
  • Conducts follow up investigations that do not require contact with a suspect; identifies, collects and documents evidence on scene; takes photographs and fingerprints; handles and transports evidence
  • Patrols city parks and recreation areas, monitors users, and reports unsafe conditions or vandalism
  • Patrol parks and recreation areas, monitor public safety, and report vandalism or hazardous conditions.

Ideal Candidate for Both Police Service Assistant/Police Service Assistant Apprentice:

  • A genuine interest in policing, community safety, and public service
  • Has or currently participates in a Police Explorer or Cadet program that is interested in future law enforcement
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.

Special Qualifications:

  • Ability to pass an extensive background investigation.
  • Valid Driver's License of the appropriate class.
  • Complete the Police Service Assistant Academy and Police Service Assistant Field Training Program
