Job description

Position Summary:
The Electrician position is a licensed Journeyman who will be responsible for repairing, maintaining, tracking and installing electrical systems and equipment such as wiring, switches, and Nurse call systems; locating and determining electrical malfunctions using various test instruments such as an ammeter, voltmeter, and test lamp; repair malfunctions by such methods as replacing burnt-out elements and fuses, bypassing or replacing defective wiring, filing switch contact points and cleaning or requiring equipment. In addition to the electrical repairs and maintenance, this position will perform a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance and repair tasks and performs related duties as required for the physical structures and systems of the hospital and hospital properties.
Position Requirements:
Licensure/Certification/Registrations: Must have current, valid, electrical license, CO driver's license in good standing and insurable
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a four-year electrician apprenticeship program or equivalent education/experience.
Experience: 4+ years experience as a journey-level electrician. Experience in hospital building or commercial high-rise setting preferred. Experience in building automation systems, nurse call systems and fire alarms systems preferred. Demonstrated experience in 3 and single phase electrical systems and experience with high voltage, 480 3-phase down to low voltage 12/24 volt systems.
Skills & Abilities: Excellent organization, customer service and communication skills (clear written and verbal ability). Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities and prioritize and schedule according to forecasting workloads. Must be able to successfully and effectively communicate with a variety of personnel and work under adverse situations and conditions (dirty, noisy, etc.). Must have strong diagnostic skills and troubleshooting skills to be able to perform maintenance repair work on the all or most of the following areas: appliances; electrical systems; plumbing systems; carpentry; painting/wallpapering/sheetrock; pool systems; roofing (as required). Must be able to work overtime and weekends, alternate shifts as needed. Ability to read blueprints and electrical drawings.
Essential Functions:
• Responsible for running outlets and electrical circuits building equipment, lighting and data cabling.
• Oversee the above ceiling penetration program, including planning routes and installation of low voltage wiring to support IT and data requirements for the Hospital.
• Responsible for troubleshooting equipment and electrical systems based on a work order ticketing system and prioritizing effectively and estimating labor, material and equipment costs to repair.
• Perform a variety of routine and emergency repairs and preventative maintenance to include; equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and grounds, keeping all areas in proper condition as directed.
• Complete engineering tasks and respond to work service requests.
• Repair and maintain hospital plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and other engineering systems. Also, maintain grounds, including the interior structures and furnishings of hospital, the exterior structures of the hospital and other areas as assigned.
• Assist in the troubleshooting and repairing of electrical systems and equipment malfunctions, signs of damage, deterioration, or adjustment.
• Manage and maintain various power distribution equipment, auxiliary equipment and motor control systems.
• Read work project specifications, blue prints, and technical trade related manuals, circuit diagrams and written specification
• Adhere to customer service standards. Work with other Engineering staff to ensure hospital maintenance issues are dealt with in a timely manner and that proper follow-through is done.
• Adhere to established electrical codes including national, state and local building fire and mechanical codes as well as hospital safety standards, policies and procedures. Correctly wear and utilize safetye quipment, as required. Also, complete safety inspections as required and participate in programs and procedures to comply with codes and standards including but not limited to Craig's Above Ceiling Penetrations Policy/Programming, JCAHO, NFPA, NEC, OSHA, etc.
• Perform regular preventive maintenance on equipment, computerized operating systems and plant facilities.
• Attend training/education in technology updates as mandated by Engineering Supervisor.
• Will maintain rotational on-call responsibilities, responding to emergency repairs or outages to electrical systems and/or maintenance systems.
