Job description

The Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual and CNC machine tools to manufacture precision parts and components according to engineering drawings and specifications. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality work while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual and CNC lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders, and other machine tools.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and technical specifications.
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, cutting tools, and machine parameters.
  • Measure and inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, and bore gauges.
  • Maintain close tolerances and ensure parts meet quality requirements.
  • Perform machine adjustments and tool changes as needed during production.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements.
  • Deburr, clean, and finish machined components.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment in good operating condition.
  • Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with 5S or similar workplace standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and quality personnel to resolve manufacturing issues.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school certification or apprenticeship in machining preferred.
  • 3+ years of machining experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience operating manual and/or CNC machine tools.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) preferred.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring equipment.
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
