Job description

Brief Description:

The Electrician Apprentice reports indirectly to the Electrical Superintendent, directly to the Electrician Journeyman and supports the Journeyman in the installation, maintenance, operation and repair of electrical systems by handling tools, testing malfunctioning equipment and identifying defects. The incumbent is responsible for completing electrical wiring tasks, alignment adjustments and calibration of equipment following manuals, schematics, drawings, diagrams, blueprints, and code.

Licensing Information and Requirements:  

  • Apprentice license from the state of North Dakota

 Essential Job Functions:  

  • Reads blueprints, drawings and wiring diagrams  
  • Pull and terminate power and instrumentation cables  
  • Assists on installs and repair of equipment, wiring or control devices 
  • Assist with preventative maintenance on motors, pumps, generators, etc. 
  • Maintains, identifies and clearly marks all electrical panels as to functions of controls 
  • Ensures all work is conducted in accordance with NEC and NFPA requirement as well as local, city, state, and national electrical codes, and all Company and Client standards.  
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma, or Equivalent 
  • One (1) year of electrical experience; industrial industry preferred
  • Current and valid driver’s license, with clean driving record required depending on location 
  • Current OSHA 10 and Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) certificates or be able to obtain upon hire 

Post Job Offer Requirements:  

  • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test and background check. 
  • Maintain an active electrical license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:   

  • Knowledge and experience with power tools, electrical equipment and construction equipment 
  • Basic knowledge of electrical codes  
  • Knowledge of proper electrical equipment use conducive to conditions and assignments including adherence to Hazardous Materials and Safety Regulations 
  • Basic understanding of electrical schematics, diagrams and blueprints  
  • Verbal and written communication skills  
  • Strong mechanical, analytical and solution driven skills  
  • Basic math skills  
  • Basic troubleshooting ability  
  • Ability to recognize and respond to dangerous situations or emergencies such as high voltage systems, electrical fires, loose hot wires, broken power lines, etc.
