Job description

Senior Nuclear Scientist

Kalman & Company is seeking to hire an experienced Senior Nuclear Scientist. This will be a full-time position with on-site support required in Addison, TX, and the Dallas Metro Area. Advanced training, experience, and knowledge in the field of nuclear spectroscopy as demonstrated in the resume by a minimum of an advanced degree in Nuclear Physics or Nuclear Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of documented experience in airborne applications of gamma-ray spectroscopy and airborne applications of spectroscopy.

Responsibilities:

  • Operations, set-up, calibration, diagnostics, and inventory of radiological instrumentation and materials
  • Advise the government client on radiological instrumentation employment and results analysis
  • Conduct radiological analysis, including report generation and presentation to senior leadership

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required
  • Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics or Health Physics
  • Minimum 5 years airborne gamma measurements
  • Minimum 2 years of gamma spectroscopy experience in a laboratory or similar setting
  • Experience with MCNP or similar codes, calculations for MDA of airborne spectrometers or other similar analyses
  • Experience in gamma spectroscopic analysis of uranium, thorium and series progeny
  • Strong analytical, report writing, and presentation skills
  • Ability to travel to support emergency response missions as necessary (minimal travel)

Desired Qualifications

  • Located near the Addison, TX area.
  • Three to five years of experience in nuclear instrumentation quality assurance
  • Previous or current training in DOT shipping requirements for radioactive material
  • Spectroscopic experience with scintillators (NaI, LaBr) and solid-state detectors
  • Familiarity with secular equilibrium and its effects on spectral analysis
