Job description

Title: Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Development Engineer

Location: Wabtec Freight, Erie, PA

Job Description:

The Hardware-In-Test-Loop (HITL) Development Engineer is responsible for all activities related to the development, maintenance, execution, and automation of HITL environments used for the validation of locomotive traction/propulsion, auxiliary systems, power electronics, and embedded control software. This role works closely with Drives Control, Systems, Software, and Verification teams to build comprehensive real-time simulation environments that support product development and validation lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

-   Work cross functionally to identify and capture requirements to execute the full lifecycle development of HITL solutions.

-   Define simulator I/O requirements, and specify interface mapping and signal conditioning based on system requirements and control architecture..

-   Develop and release real-time simulation models for traction motors, power converters, energy storage systems, braking systems, and various locomotive/off-highway vehicle (OHV) sub-systems.

-   Create automated test frameworks, write test scripts and sequences, design fault injection scenarios, and execute closed-loop control validation.

-  Integrate new control software releases into active HITL platforms and update real-time plant models accordingly

-   Maintain and update official HITL design documentation, test procedures, and platform configuration documents.

Desired Skills:

-   Experience with Full lifecycle HITL Development, Architecture Design, Simulator Integration, and Platform Configuration.

-   The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

-   Modeling and simulation abilities using (matlab, simulink, stateflow, and simscape power systems).

-   Familiarity with hardware environments with OpalRT (or similar) real-time simulators, signal conditioning, and interface mapping.

-   Advanced test automation framework development, test scripting, and Fault Injection Testing.

-   Past experience managing test reporting, closing out design/verification reviews, and ensuring rigorous data traceability.

-   Additional experience/knowledge with locomotive embedded systems design a plus.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer Science or a Technical Discipline with 3 to 6 years of related experience.
