Position Summary:

      The HVAC Mechanic, Level III, is responsible for independently performing routine preventive and predictive maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and complex repairs on a broad range of HVAC/R systems. This role requires advanced working knowledge of mechanical and controls systems, including pneumatic and DDC controls, and proficiency with VRF, hydronic, VAV, constant volume, VFD, CRAC, and DX systems.

      The Level III Mechanic works primarily with DX equipment components, including electrical, refrigeration, gas systems, VAV/mixing boxes, fan boxes, and pumps. This position actively seeks out technical information to support accurate diagnostics and system optimization, strictly follows all required safety protocols, and provides mentorship and technical guidance to Level I and Level II HVAC Mechanics.


Essential Core Competencies and Responsibilities:

  • Performs  routine preventive and predictive maintenance and service repairs on HVAC  systems without supervision 
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, startup, adjust and replace mechanical  equipment and control components 
  • Provide  technical support to sales and technicians, as required 
  • Identify  predictive failures and provide accurate information for Spot quotes 
  • Start  up and commissioning of Complex HVAC equipment 
  • Advanced  Diagnosis and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical components
  • Replace  or repair defective components including motors, controls, and electrical   wiring
  • Perform  warranty repairs for HVAC systems and components 
  • Test  systems to ensure proper functioning after service 
  • Read  and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer specifications
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation 
  • Follow  all required safety protocols 
  • Ability  to mentor Level I & Level II HVAC Mechanics 
  • Utilize  DST Technology


Requirements

  • Advanced working knowledge of all HVAC/R systems. 
  • Proficient with VRF, hydronic and DDC controls systems. 
  • HVAC vocational, job related experience and/or trade certificate.
  • >5 years HVAC experience plus two years demonstrated   troubleshooting experience
  • Ability to communicate services performed with customers

Equipment-Specific Knowledge Requirements: 

  • Chillers, boilers furnaces, HVAC/R, cooling towers, controls,  CRAC units, BMS, VAV systems 

Technical Knowledge Requirements:

  • HVAC/R systems and installations, the ability to read and  understand mechanical drawings, ductwork, sheet metal construction,      refrigerant management

Certifications:

  • Universal CFC Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AA preferred (or applicable experience in lieu of)

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting
  • Bending, climbing, pulling, pushing, balancing, kneeling,  twisting and standing
  • Perform service and repair functions from ladders and overhead
  • Carry and set up ladders up to 32 ft. in height (step or  extension) as required
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, catwalks, etc.
  • Work from mechanical lifts
