Job description
Small Arms Repair Technician (2026-25654):
Bowhead seeks a Small Arms Repair Technician to join our team supporting a recently awarded contract providing small arms support to the USAF on Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland AFB, TX.
ResponsibilitiesEssential functions will include:
- Assemble, disassemble, refurbish, repair, modify, and proof-test USAF small arms to blueprint and customer specifications using hand tools and machines, such as grinders, buffers, saws, drill presses, lathes and milling machines.
- Assist with fitting actions and barrel into stock and aligning parts. The Contractor shall be able to make work updates within LDMS, Depot Level Transaction System (D035K) and Foundational Logistics Information Technology Enterprise System (FLITES), as applicable.
- Re-finishing components by immersing metal parts in bluing salt bath or phosphate bath to impart rust resistant surface and/or blue color to metal.
- Apply finishes (e.g., Cerakote) to components to impart rust resistant surface.
Fabricating wooden and synthetic stocks for guns according to technical data for bedding of barrels and receivers.
Performing precision fitting and finishing of new and modified components to close tolerances; for example, removing small amounts of metal or reshaping parts using machinery to rough out work, and hand-finishing methods to reach final tolerances.
- Applying knowledge of hand and machine metal working to devise jigs, tools, and fixtures to aid in the fitting and testing processes.
- Maintaining equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs
- Setting up and operating metalworking, brazing, heat-treating, welding, and cutting equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Assosiates Degree in Gunsmithing required with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience or Graduate the Combat Arms Apprentice Course at JBSA-Lackland, with a Specialty Code of 3P051B (Combat Arms) or sister service equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience.
Working repair knowledge of the following weapons/weapon systems, or weapons of equivalent complexity:

- M870 - Bird/wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH)

- Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
- Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
