Under the supervision of experienced staff, apprentices learn how to use landscaping tools and equipment, follow health and safety procedures, and develop skills needed for a career in grounds maintenance. This role often serves as an entry point into the landscaping or horticulture industry.

What are some typical challenges faced by an apprentice groundsman during their first year on the job?

As an Apprentice Groundsman, one common challenge is adapting to the physical demands of the role, which often includes working outdoors in various weather conditions and handling heavy machinery or equipment. Apprentices must also quickly develop teamwork and communication skills, as the role involves collaborating closely with experienced grounds staff and sometimes with external contractors. Overcoming these challenges is key to building confidence, technical ability, and a strong foundation for career growth in grounds maintenance and management.
