Job description

Position SummaryThe Data Center Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient day-to-day operation of an assigned Duos Edge AI data center. The facility is a multi-tenant, mission-critical environment supporting high-density GPU compute and colocation workloads. The Data Center Manager maintains operational readiness as the site grows, customer capacity expands, and additional infrastructure is placed into service.This position assumes on-site operational responsibility following turnover from the infrastructure delivery and construction teams. The Data Center Manager is accountable for uptime, safety, service delivery, tenant commitments, critical infrastructure, site personnel, vendors, and operational readiness. The position reports to the Director of Operations and serves as the primary on-site operational leader for the facility.Key ResponsibilitiesFacility OperationsOwn 24/7 operational availability of the facility, including power, cooling, environmental, life-safety, and supporting systems, in accordance with contracted uptime commitments.Own preventive and reactive maintenance procedures for critical and general facility systems, including scheduling, execution, documentation, and oversight of vendor-performed maintenance.Exercise stop-work authority over any activity that places the facility, personnel, contractors, customers, or tenant equipment at risk.Manage the transition from construction and commissioning into live operations, including formal acceptance of systems, documentation, warranties, and open punch-list items.Maintain and execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Methods of Procedure (MOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), and change-control requirements for all critical systems.Oversee capacity management as the site grows, including power, cooling, space, and tenant allocation.Critical Infrastructure ManagementManage electrical distribution, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, grounding, and related infrastructure, including load balancing and power-factor performance against actual IT load.Manage mechanical and cooling systems, including liquid-to-chip cooling and containment configurations serving high-density racks.Monitor and report Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), capacity utilization, system performance, alarms, and overall infrastructure health.Coordinate testing, maintenance, repairs, and lifecycle planning for critical infrastructure while minimizing operational risk.Customer and Tenant OperationsServe as the primary on-site operational point of contact for GPU-as-a-service, colocation, and other facility customers.Own customer remote-hands requests from receipt through completion, ensuring response-time commitments are met, and all work is accurately documented.Receive, inspect, log, stage, secure, and manage customer equipment deliveries and inventory through handoff for installation.Coordinate tenant installations, moves, adds, changes, access requirements, and maintenance activity with security, IT, vendors, and the NOC.Deliver against tenant service-level agreements and Ready-for-Service commitments, and manage change control for tenant-affecting work.Team and Vendor ManagementManage, direct, and develop on-site data center personnel while remaining willing and able to contribute hands-on when operationally necessary.Own staffing schedules, task assignments, on-call coverage, training, performance management, and development for site personnel.Manage service contracts and vendor relationships for critical and general facility systems.Coordinate and control contractor activity on site, including ongoing construction during phased build-out, without compromising live operations.Safety, Security, Compliance, and Incident ResponseOwn site safety and enforce safety procedures for employees, customers, vendors, and contractors working in a live electrical and mechanical environment.Coordinate physical security, access control, visitor management, camera coverage, and site-security procedures with the Director of Operations and corporate security resources.Maintain compliance with applicable codes, permits, company standards, and Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements.Maintain site Business Continuity, Emergency Action, and incident-response plans; lead site response and post-incident reviews.Ensure all operational work is performed under approved procedures, change control, and risk-management practices.Operational Reporting and Cross-Functional CoordinationProvide timely operational reporting to the Director of Operations on availability, incidents, capacity, maintenance, expenditure, vendor performance, staffing, and customer commitments.Partner with the NOC to maintain monitoring visibility, escalation paths, incident records, and operational readiness.Work closely with the VP of Infrastructure Delivery during construction turnover, phased expansion, commissioning, and acceptance activities.Coordinate with IT, security, engineering, finance, sales, and customer teams as required to support safe and reliable operations.Success MeasuresFacility availability and uptime commitments are consistently achieved.Preventive maintenance, testing, and inspections are completed on schedule and fully documented.Safety, security, and change-control requirements are consistently followed.Customer requests, remote-hands work, and tenant commitments are completed within agreed service levels.Capacity, PUE, infrastructure health, spending, and incident reporting are accurate and timely.Construction-to-operations turnover and phased expansion activities are completed without avoidable impact to live operations.Site personnel and vendors demonstrate accountability, readiness, and continuous improvement.Seven or more years of experience in mission-critical facilities or data center operations, including at least three years in a facility leadership or management role.Demonstrated ownership of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure in a live, uptime-sensitive environment.Working knowledge of high-density compute environments, including liquid cooling and containment.Experience managing tenant or customer service-level agreements in a multi-tenant or colocation environment.Strong command of critical-operations disciplines, including SOP, MOP, EOP, incident management, and change control.Proven ability to hire, lead, train, schedule, and develop an on-site technical team.Ability to work on site at the assigned Duos Edge AI data center and remain available for on-call escalation.Preferred QualificationsDirect experience commissioning a data center and transitioning it from construction into steady-state operations.Familiarity with GPU-as-a-service or AI-compute workloads and their power and cooling profiles.Relevant certifications such as CDCMP, CDCP, or equivalent.Experience with behind-the-meter or on-site generation.Electrical or mechanical engineering education or professional background.Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsFull-time, on-site role in an operating data center environment with exposure to high-voltage electrical equipment, mechanical plant, noise, and temperature variations.Ability to respond to after-hours incidents, emergencies, and on-call escalations.Ability to move throughout the facility, access equipment areas, use required personal protective equipment, and lift or move equipment as reasonably required for the role.Ability to travel periodically for training, coordination, vendor activity, or support of other Duos Edge AI locations.Benefits:Generous compensation package with incentives based on performance.
