Job description

Victor Energy is a powerline contractor with over 30 years experience building Alberta’s electrical infrastructure, recently acquired by Java Holdings Ltd. Java staff have over 50 years of experience building some of Canada’s largest electrical infrastructure projects. We are seeking qualified Journeyman Powerline Technicians / 3rd Year Powerline Technicians (PLT) for a work opportunity in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Erect and maintain steel, wood or concrete poles, towers, and guy wires
  • Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground power lines and cables, insulators, conductors, lightning arrestors, switches, transformers, street lighting and other associated equipment
  • Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks
  • Have knowledge and expertise in the areas of construction, maintenance, and repair of both distribution and transmission power systems, coupled with the ability to follow instructions and procedures
  • Opens and closes switches and installs grounding devices to lines and equipment.
  • Completing high-tension stringing activities
  • Instruct, mentor and train junior personnel and Apprentices in duties, safe work practices, care and use of tools and equipment in a positive respectful manner
  • Ability to read and understand the scope of construction prints provided.
  • The ability to work at heights on wood poles, steel towers, etc. in adverse weather conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Valid Apprentice/Journeyman certificate for Powerline Technician, Provincial and Red Seal
  • Class 5 driver’s license, preference of a class 1 with airbrake endorsement.
  • 5 years’ experience
  • 25Kv experience is an asset

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strength, stamina, and the use of proper lifting techniques required to work with equipment weighing in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Good physical coordination and manual dexterity
  • Mechanical ability
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and adapt to changing tasks and locations
  • Demonstrate sound work ethic
  • Be punctual
  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Be Honest, respectful, and trustworthy
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Willingness to travel and valid Passport

SCHEDULE:

  • 6 weeks on island 2 weeks off (subject to change)

SUPPLEMENTAL PAY TYPES:

  • All accommodations and flights to Turks and Caicos Islands covered
  • LOA
  • Overtime at time and a half after 40 hours (5 days at 8 hours standard time and 2 hours overtime)
