We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Database Administrator to join our IT team in Langley, BC.

Reporting to the Manager, Database Admin, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the organization's enterprise database environment, ensuring the reliability and performance of systems that support critical business functions.

In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert within a complex enterprise environment, leveraging your expertise in Oracle database administration, performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery to support mission-critical business systems and drive continuous improvement across the database landscape.


You will be responsible for:

  • Providing direct level 2 and 3 database support for development, QA, and production environments running on various versions of Oracle (19c or above, RAC, Exadata), MS SQL Server (SQL 2005-2022), PostgreSQL and MySQL.

  • Providing all aspects of database support for Azure based database infrastructure.

  • Researching, recommending, and executing improvements to database environments to maximize efficiency, reliability, and performance.

  • Performing database tuning and configuration to ensure optimum performance across all client databases.

  • Planning and implementing database upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.

  • Using native and/or external tools, such as Oracle's Enterprise Manager and SQL Server DMVs, to quickly pinpoint trouble spots and resolve performance issues.

  • Designing and maintaining database backup and recovery strategies, including long term retention strategies, redundancy plans, and backup encryption.

  • Collaborating with internal teams (Architecture, Development and Infrastructure) to develop database systems for new products or enhancements to existing systems.

  • Sharing domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and training to peers and team members.

  • Providing expert level ETL and scripting to existing and new processes.

  • Developing and maintaining server and database documentation.

  • Providing on-call support outside of working hours for business-critical systems as required.

You have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a Database Administrator role supporting mission-critical production environments, high availability, disaster recovery, performance tuning, and database lifecycle management.

  • Proven experience managing Enterprise database platforms and infrastructure within Azure and/or AWS cloud environments.

  • Experience with Oracle: 19c and above in an enterprise RAC environment.

  • Experience with MS-SQL: 2008/2008 R2/2012/2014/2019/2022.

  • Experience with Oracle and MS SQL server high availability technology.

  • Expert knowledge in Transact SQL and PL/SQL.

  • Strong understanding of database structures, principles, and best practices.

  • Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting incidents and performing root cause analysis.

  • Working knowledge of database table partitioning techniques and processes.

  • A good understanding of database encryption technologies and best practices.

  • A solid understanding of operating system, Active Directory, and Network technologies.

  • Knowledge of Spark, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, Databricks, Azure, NoSQL, Snowflake, and Distributed systems are considered assets.

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification is considered an asset.
