Job description

Position Overview

Teaches, advises, and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. This position is a full-time, tenure-track position.

College/Department Overview

The College of Mathematics and Science currently has 128 full-time and over 70 part-time faculty in five academic departments, the School of Engineering, and the School of Nursing. The College serves more than 3,300 undergraduate students in 30 majors and provides graduate programs in Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Applied Mathematical Science, Engineering, Computational Science, and Nursing. Accreditation/Certification is held by ABET, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the American Board of Funeral Service Education, and the American Chemical Society. Department Specific Essential Job Functions

Duties include didactic, simulation, and clinical teaching of undergraduate and graduate nursing courses. Other responsibilities include scholarly/creative activities and service to the department, college, university, and profession. Activities directly related to the Curley Endowed Chair for Nursing Research and Evidence Based Practice are the expectation of actively publishing papers in refereed journals; giving presentations at national and international conferences with one or more nursing students; and assisting faculty in the publication process within refereed journals, the development and implementation of evidence-based projects and the formulation of presentations at national or international conferences.  The Curley Endowed Chair for Nursing Research works directly and constructively with the Director of the School of Nursing and the CMS Director of Sponsored Research to develop grant proposals leading to the submission of a completed external grant proposal every other year.  Service expectations include maintaining an active role in curriculum and assessment as it pertains to research and evidence-based practice and developing innovative programs that improve nursing research for faculty and students in the School of Nursing.

Possible areas of instruction include Research and Evidence Based Practice and/or courses in the graduate program. The candidate must be willing to teach courses in a variety of delivery formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and online) as needed.

Qualifications/Experience Required

Doctoral degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). Masters or Doctorate in Nursing. Current Oklahoma RN License, CPR, vaccination status and tuberculosis testing required. Drug screen will be required before starting clinical duties. At least two years of clinical Nursing experience is required.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Previous experience in nursing education and evaluating students in the clinical area is preferred.  Candidates should have an established area of research and recent publications in refereed journals.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to work cooperatively with other faculty and staff members is necessary. Reports to the Director of the School and the Dean of the College.
