Research Assistant Professor - Computational Biology or Systems Immunology Position Overview and Responsibilities

The James/Guthridge Lab (james.omrf.org ; guthridge.omrf.org ) is hiring a Research Assistant Professor (transitional faculty member) to assist with analysis of large, complex, multi-modal datasets from clinical trials and clinical research protocols. The successful candidate will have training and expertise in computational biology, systems immunology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, machine learning, or related quantitative disciplines to add to one of the nation's leading multidisciplinary autoimmune disease research programs, OMRF Arthritis & Clinical Immunology.

This position offers an exceptional opportunity to become part of a highly collaborative team of physician-scientists, immunologists, computational biologists, geneticists, epidemiologists, and data scientists dedicated to understanding the mechanisms underlying autoimmune diseases and developing strategies to predict, prevent, and treat them.

The successful candidate will leverage large, deeply phenotyped, multi-modal datasets generated from patients with autoimmune diseases and individuals at risk for developing autoimmunity. Available data include high-dimensional molecular, cellular, genetic, genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, clinical, imaging, and longitudinal biospecimen datasets derived from peripheral blood and disease-relevant tissues. These resources provide outstanding opportunities for integrative analyses, biomarker discovery, mechanistic investigation, disease prediction, and precision medicine.

This is a transitional position for scientists who have completed a graduate degree and an exemplary postdoctoral experience who have been evaluated as being likely to develop high-caliber independent or collaborative projects and to attract extramural grant support. Successful candidates are characterized by considerable experience, highly distinctive competence, and a demonstrated ability to perform both independently and as a critical member of a large multi-disciplinary productive team.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a biological science, chemistry, physics or other relevant area such as statistics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, epidemiology, and/or M.D., or equivalent and typically two or more years of exemplary postdoctoral experience.
  • Must be a team-player with good organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as highly attentive to detail, and dependable.
  • Must be interested in contributing to the preparation and development of federal and foundation grant applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • The ability to perform data analysis and visualization using appropriate analytic software programs or through programming in R, Python or other languages.
  • Human Immune response in heath and disease experience or clinical trials experience strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 publications, including publications in high-impact journals.
  • Experience writing parts of successful grant applications.
