University of Hawai'i, Kapi'olani Community College, Math & Sciences Department is seeking applications for the Mathematics lecturer position. Salary: Minimum $2,053 per credit hour; subject to lecturer placement.

Other Conditions: For placement into the lecturer pool beginning Spring 2027. Subject to availability of funds and actual staffing requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach courses in the assigned subject area;
  • Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress;
  • Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes;
  • Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations;
  • Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area;
  • Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week);
  • Classes may be offered online, evenings and/or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree; OR
  • Master's degree in Math Education with 18 credits of advanced coursework in math of which 9 credits are at the graduate level; OR
  • Master's degree of Art in Teaching Math with 18 credits of advanced coursework in math, at least 9 of which are at the graduate level; OR
  • Master's degree in STEM-related field with 18 credits of advanced coursework in math

Note: "Advanced coursework" is defined as 300-400 level courses offered in a bachelor's program. "Graduate level" coursework is defined as post baccalaureate courses at the level specified by the institution where the credits were earned. STEM-related fields: applied math, engineering, physical science, and biological science.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience related to the course(s) to be taught at the community college level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with community college students.
  • Work experience related to the course(s) to be taught.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively.
  • Familiarity with competency-and outcomes-based instruction.
