Job description

Salary: $1,150 to $1,725 per credit

LOCATION: Utqiavik, Alaska or Remote


DEPARTMENT: Academic Affairs


REPORTS TO: Associate Dean of Academic Affairs


WORK SCHEDULE: Per Semester/Course Contract


COMPENSATION: $1,150 to $1,725 per credit, determined by education credentials


Ilisagvik College is rooted in the ancestral homeland of the Iupiat. As an institution, we are Unapologetically Iupiaq. The Iupiaq way of life is woven into our curriculum, programs, activities, and daily interactions within Ilisagvik College and our community partners.


SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Teaches one to three Math Classes in Fall 2026. Fall semester begins 8/18/26 and concludes 11/26/26. The following 2-credit courses need instructors. Please visithttps://catalog.ilisagvik.edu/ for a full course description.


MATH 055:Applied Math (Two Modules; 2 Credits Each)

Fundamentals; review of whole number and fractional computation including applications, module reviews, decimal and integer computation including applications; introduction to equation solving percent and ratios; solving proportions and linear equations. Will be offered in 2 credit modules.

MATH 060:Beginning Algebra (Two Modules; 2 Credits Each)

This course is the beginning college algebra (or equivalent to HS Algebra I). Topics include reviewing of order operations, solving linear system equations of inequalities, word problems, simplifying exponential expressions, rational expression, polynomials, factoring, and introduction to quadratic equations and solving roots and radical equations. Offered in 2-credit modules.

There may be flexibility with the schedule of classes and class modalities. Instructor may be located on-site in Utqiavik, AK or deliver via synchronous means (Zoom, etc.) and on Iisaviks LMS, Moodle. Foundational math classes will be scheduled as synchronous classes in the afternoons and evenings (AKST).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares and maintains updated instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum.
  • Utilizes student LMS (Moodle MyCampus).
  • Develops and submits current course syllabus, using the college template.
  • Prepares administrative documents, such as student withdrawals and attendance.
  • Evaluates student performance and timely submits midterm and final grades to the registrar.
  • Maintains office hours (in-person, telephonically, or online).
  • Participates in professional development as necessary to be proficient in the colleges current technologies and learning platform.
  • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated professional and/or teaching experience in the subject area.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Proficient in Business Management, Business Administration, Finance, or similar fields.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in a post-secondary environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated experience with distance delivery.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
  • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • Ability to support Iisavik Colleges mission.


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Required]:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree or
    equivalent in Mathematics or other relevant discipline.


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:

  • Doctorate degree or equivalent in the area of instruction.
