Job description

Mini-Circuits designs, manufactures and distributes integrated circuits, modules, and sub-systems for high-performance radio frequency (RF) and microwave applications. With design, sales and manufacturing locations in over 30 countries, Mini-Circuits' products are used in a range of wired and wireless communications applications. Our products are also used in detection, measurement and imaging applications, including military communication, guidance and electronic countermeasure systems, commercial, scientific, military land, sea and aircraft, automotive systems, medical systems, and industrial test equipment.

Mini-Circuits' sells its products to over 20,000 customers globally through our direct sales force, applications engineering staff, sales representatives, as well as through our extensive website

Position Summary:
The Engineering Manager (EM) works closely with MMIC design, project management, quality, mechanical design and RF test teams to transition the product from development phase to production phase. EM owns MMIC test board development, production test fixture development, production test plan creation, and analysis of production test data, and assists the quality team in moving the product through qualification. A good understanding of product lifecycle from product conception to development to production release is required especially related to GaAs and GaN MMICs.
This role is accountable for the design, build and validation of Test Boards (TB) and Test Fixtures (TF), the successful completion of the qualification and final production documentation of the product. This position must be able to meet deadlines and resolve performance issues along the way with established and appropriate autonomy.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $177,500 per year

Job Function:
  • Develop TB needed to verify functionality of the MMIC in both die and packaged form.
  • Work with CAD team to create formal drawings of the PCB.
  • Work with Mechanical design team to create formal drawings for the base plate and other mechanical components.
  • Work with Project Management team to ensure BOM components are in stock; if not work with Purchasing to order as necessary.
  • Create assembly drawings for assembling the TB including base plate, PCB, SMT components, RF and DC connectors etc.
  • Work with assembly team to build the TB.
  • Work with MMIC design team to verify functionality of the TB on the RF test bench; should be capable of using equipment like Network Analyzer to verify TB.
  • Translate the TB into production TF; work closely with design and test teams to implement solutions.
  • Work with Design, CAD, Mechanical, PM, Assembly and Test teams to build and test the TF.
  • Formulate and perform gauge R&R studies of TF to ensure repeatability and reproducibility.
  • Create production test plans.

Qualifications:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering required; MS preferred
  • 7-10 years of experience in a supervisory position with experience managing a multi-functional engineering development group and have demonstrated ability to manage a team of engineers to create & support the activities during the life cycle of products, from conception through production within stated time frames.
  • Should have good understanding of RF and Microwave test equipment such as PNA-X, Vector Network Analyzers, Power Meters, Spectrum Analyzers, Noise Meters etc.
  • Must be able to work with AutoCAD and/or Solidworks to verify drawings
  • Should have experience with circuit level analysis tools such as ADS, MWO or equivalent.
  • Should have experience with 3D EM simulation tools such as HFSS, CST or equivalent.
  • Strong statistical skills are a must.
  • Professional and positive approach, self-motivated, strong in building relationships, team player, dynamic, creative with the ability to work on own initiative.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Past experience working for an ISO company that practices LEAN manufacturing a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage the New York MMIC Design Group to support multiple projects simultaneously with competing priorities.
  • Supervise, train, direct and mentor Engineers and Technicians.
  • Define objectives and track results for team members.
  • Organize and lead the work of the Design Team by delegating assignments, provide guidance to achieve projects objectives in accordance with established timelines and policies.
  • Responsible for determining the skills, workload expectations, and performance rewards for all new and current group members.
  • Keep projects focused and manageable.
  • Manage rigorous documentation during the design effort, including design documentation, qualification test and validation reports, supporting analysis in accordance with the company's quality standards.
  • Provide technical vision and direction to ensure the design team is aligned with the strategy of the MMIC Business Unit and company.
