Job description

Job Title: Quality Control Technician Effective Date: July 2026

Department: Quality Assurance

Reports to: The Director of Quality & Lean

Location: 4 Sunshine Blvd, Ormond Beach, FL 32174

Work Schedule: Full-time, in a production and receiving environment.

Job Overview:

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for performing incoming material inspections, receiving quality verification, and in-process quality checks to ensure all purchased materials, components, and subassemblies meet approved drawings, specifications, and purchase order requirements. This role serves as the first line of quality defense in the supply chain — verifying that nothing enters production that does not meet Germfree’s quality standards. In addition to receiving inspection duties, the QC Technician supports general in-process and final inspection activities, assists with nonconformance documentation, and contributes to continuous improvement of quality processes. The position requires strong attention to detail, ability to read technical drawings, proficiency with basic measuring instruments, and clear written communication skills.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform incoming inspection of all purchased materials, components, parts, and subassemblies upon receipt at the facility, verifying compliance with approved drawings, specifications, purchase order requirements, and applicable quality standards.
  • Verify material certifications, certificates of conformance, and test reports accompanying incoming shipments against purchase order requirements and material specifications; flag discrepancies for Quality Engineering review.
  • Inspect incoming assemblies and parts against approved prints, dimensional requirements, and visual acceptance criteria using calibrated measuring instruments.
  • Accurately enter receiving inspection results into the ERP system (Global Shop); maintain complete and legible inspection records for all incoming materials.
  • Identify, tag, and segregate nonconforming materials received from suppliers; initiate Nonconformance Reports (NCMRs) and place rejected materials in quarantine pending disposition.
  • Complete NCMR documentation using clear, structured problem statements; provide photographs and supporting evidence; communicate nonconformance status to the purchasing and engineering teams.
  • Monitor and maintain the receiving inspection area for organization, cleanliness, and correct quarantine segregation practices.
  • Verify that all incoming instruments and calibrated equipment are accompanied by current calibration certificates; flag and quarantine any items received with expired or missing calibration documentation.
  • Perform in-process inspections of product at assigned stages of manufacture against quality criteria, design requirements, and applicable compliance standards.
  • Test in-process and finished product using calibrated instrumentation; record test data accurately and completely in the project quality record.
  • Support Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) of finished products for pharmaceutical, healthcare, or biosafety applications as assigned; assist with test data recording and punch list tracking.
  • Inspect field-based product installations against quality criteria as required; travel to vendor facilities or customer sites for source inspection activities.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Engineering, Project Management, and Production teams to assess inspection requirements, resolve discrepancies, and communicate quality status.
  • Prepare and review quality documentation including inspection checklists, standard operating procedures, nonconformance reports, and receiving inspection logs.
  • Support tracking and reporting of quality control events and key performance indicators (KPIs) including NCMR open/close rates, receiving rejection rates, and supplier performance data.
  • Identify and support opportunities for continuous improvement in receiving inspection processes, supplier quality, and QMS documentation.
  • Assist in other areas of production or quality as requested by the Quality Engineering Manager.
  • Travel as needed for source inspection or field activities.
  • Other reasonably related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings including part prints, assembly drawings and bill of materials; understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles a plus.
  • Proficiency with basic measuring instruments including calipers, tape measures, digital multimeters, pressure gauges, and go/no-go gauges; ability to verify calibration status before use.
  • Knowledge of receiving inspection practices and supplier quality principles; ability to review and assess material certifications and certificates of conformance.
  • Familiarity with Nonconformance Reporting (NCR) processes; ability to document inspection findings clearly using structured problem statement formats.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management system principles and Good Documentation Practice (GDP) requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel); ability to enter quality data into ERP systems accurately; Global Shop experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear, professional inspection records and communicate findings to engineering and project teams.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and thoroughness in all quality documentation and inspection activities.
  • Detail-oriented and results-focused; committed to completeness and accuracy in all assigned tasks.
  • Basic math skills including ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages; ability to use measurement conversion tables.
  • Awareness of general safety principles in a manufacturing and production environment; ability to recognize and report unsafe conditions.
  • Physical abilities: hearing; seeing; lifting, pushing, and pulling between 50–75 pounds; crouching; bending; twisting; kneeling; squatting; crawling; walking; standing for long periods; reaching in all directions; use of safety ladder; climbing; hand/eye coordination; tolerate varying ranges of temperature in a shop environment.
  • Reliable transportation to work; ability to work overtime as required.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with receiving inspection or supplier quality functions in a manufacturing, specialty construction, or regulated industry environment.
  • Familiarity with incoming material approval methodologies.
  • Basic understanding of cleanroom, pharmaceutical, or biosafety facility products and associated quality standards (ISO 14644, 21 CFR Part 211, CDC BMBL).
  • Experience initiating Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) or equivalent supplier feedback processes.
  • Working knowledge of ERP-based inventory and quality modules; Global Shop familiarity is a plus.
  • Active Driver’s License.
  • BONUS: ASQ membership; pursuit of ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or Certified Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA) certification.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Supply Chain, or related) preferred.
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in quality control, receiving inspection, or production quality in a manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Experience in an ISO 9001-registered quality environment preferred.
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • ASQ membership and active pursuit of relevant certifications encouraged.

Supervision Required: Moderate — ability to work independently on routine receiving inspection tasks while escalating nonconformances and out-of-specification conditions for disposition.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None
