Job description

Senior Project Manager 6 month contract - 4 days in Office downtown Calgary
We are seeking a Senior Project Manager with robust project management capabilities and exceptional client navigation skills. The ideal candidate goes beyond the scope of a traditional Scrum Master, bringing extensive experience managing custom, bespoke application development projects from initiation through to closure.
Responsibilities
  • Initiate
    • Confirm project scope with the customer and ensure all necessary foundational information has been received.
  • Planning
    • Establish comprehensive project scope, timelines, schedules, resource requirements, and communication plans.
    • Identify and determine required stakeholders.
    • Develop proactive risk management plans.
  • Executing
    • Direct and manage daily work activities required to achieve project milestones.
    • Ensure all quality standards are met for every project deliverable.
    • Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders for inputs, critical decisions, and status updates.
    • Manage project priorities and guide deliverables through formal checkpoint gates.
    • Identify, address, and resolve project issues as they arise.
    • Ensure all project activities strictly adhere to governing legislation, regulations, and organizational rules. 
  • Monitoring and Controlling
    • Validate ongoing project progress, quality, and resourcing commitments while actively resolving resource conflicts.
    • Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date documentation regarding project status, schedule, accountabilities, and outcomes.
    • Validate and control project scope changes, including schedule modifications.
    • Manage and streamline project communications with both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Maintain a live risk register to identify, mitigate, and monitor project risks and interdependencies.
    • Provide regular progress reports, risk assessments, and updates to the Program Manager/Director of Customer Grid Access.
  • Closing
    • Successfully close out projects in accordance with established organizational processes.
    • Partner with the Program Support Team to identify and implement continuous project management and delivery improvements.
Requirements: 
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field (an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered).
  • Certification: Project Management Professional (PMP) or PRINCE2 certification is required.
Experience & Technical Skills
  • Experience: 8+ years of hands-on project management experience, with a proven track record on custom/bespoke app development projects.
  • Methodologies: Solid understanding of project delivery methodologies, specifically Waterfall and Hybrid-Agile.
  • Proficient in Azure DevOps Boards (experienced acting as both a Product Manager and Scrum Master within the platform).
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite to produce and review project deliverables (e.g., Project Charters, change records).
  • Demonstrated experience in resource and budget planning across multiple parallel projects.
  • Experience writing, reviewing, and finalizing Statements of Work (SOWs).
  • Experience creating low-to-medium complexity roadmaps of enhancements for custom-built applications.
  • Industry Experience (Asset): Prior experience in a regulated industry is highly preferred, specifically within utilities and electricity transmission development.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to navigate client relationships, earn trust, and influence stakeholders without formal authority.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization to manage workstreams.
  • Problem Solving: A practical, innovative, collaborative, and solution-focused approach to handling project issues.
  • Execution: High level of initiative; ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
