Operations Manager

Full Time Management Springfield, MO, US

2 days ago Requisition ID: 1038

POSITION SUMMARY

The Operations Manager owns daily production execution across the Genie Reconditioning facility. This role directly manages Production Supervisors and is accountable for output, labor efficiency, schedule adherence, quality, and first-line problem resolution across Disassembly, Preparation & Paint, Mechanical, and Final Assembly. The Operations Manager drives daily accountability through structured tier meetings, real-time KPI monitoring, and a high-visibility floor presence. This position executes the operational strategy set by the Director of Operations, coordinates daily with supporting functions, and escalates systemic issues requiring strategic intervention.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Own daily throughput, schedule attainment, and quality targets across all production areas; adjust priorities and resources in real time as conditions change.
  • Deploy and redeploy labor across shifts and work areas based on production priorities, skill mix, and attendance.
  • Lead daily tier meetings with Production Supervisors to review prior-day results, set the dayโ€™s priorities, and communicate critical information.
  • Coordinate equipment repair priorities with Maintenance to minimize unplanned downtime and protect production hours.
  • Monitor, report, and act on daily KPIs: throughput vs. plan, overtime %, attendance, schedule attainment, first-pass yield, and unplanned downtime.
  • Evaluate Production Supervisor performance through direct observation and production data; deliver coaching, corrective action, and formal evaluations.
  • Own daily safety execution on the production floor, enforce all OSHA, environmental, and company safety standards; conduct and require completion of safety observations, pre-shift hazard assessments, and PPE compliance checks; ensure all employees follow lockout/tagout, Haz/Com, and safe work procedures; immediately correct unsafe acts or conditions; and coordinate with the Safety Manager on incident investigations, near-miss reporting, and corrective action follow-through.
  • Coordinate with Quality, Supply Chain, Safety, and Maintenance to resolve material shortages, quality holds, and equipment failures affecting daily output.
  • Escalate recurring equipment failures, persistent quality defects, chronic staffing gaps, and process breakdowns to the Director of Operations with root-cause data and recommended actions.
  • Coach and develop Production Supervisors; build bench strength through cross-training, skill development, and succession identification.
  • Drive employee engagement through consistent expectations, recognition, and accountability.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and employee lifecycle activities in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Actively participate in and support the principles of Open Book Management.
  • Employees may perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS
  • Maintain constant floor presenceโ€”lead from the production area, not an office.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, urgency, and accountability at every level of the production team.
  • Make decisive, real-time calls during production disruptions, safety events, and high-pressure situations.
  • Communicate openly and constructivelyโ€”upward, downward, and laterally.
DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY
  • Tactical authority over labor deployment, shift assignments, overtime, and production sequencing.
  • Authority to stop production for safety or quality concerns and initiate immediate corrective action.
  • Authority to issue coaching, verbal, and written corrective action in coordination with HR.
  • Does not hold authority over capital expenditures, headcount changes, compensation, or strategic operational planningโ€”these elevate to the Director of Operations.

Daily throughput vs. plan | Overtime % vs. target | Employee attendance rate | Schedule attainment | First-pass yield | Unplanned downtime hours

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and production systems in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and enforce work instructions, quality standards, and safety procedures.
  • Proficiency with production tracking systems, ERP, or MES tools.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead meetings, deliver feedback, and prepare operational reports.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate or bachelorโ€™s degree in manufacturing, operations management, or a related field.
  • Five (5)+ years of manufacturing leadership in heavy equipment or industrial reconditioning.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Forklift certification. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed primarily in a heavy manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, fumes, noise, oils, grease, and varying temperatures. This position requires significant floor time with frequent movement between work areas. Occasional office work for reporting and meetings. Safety-sensitive roleโ€”PPE required (safety-toe shoes, safety glasses) in designated areas. Employees must maintain knowledge of Haz/Com regulations. Sitting 20%, standing/walking 80%. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.

Genie Recon. is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The job description does not necessarily contain all the actual or essential duties of this position. All job offers are contingent upon passing a drug screen and criminal background check.

Mondayโ€“Friday, this leadership position requires flexibility to support operational needs and may occasionally require extended hours, evenings, weekends, or other shifts as business conditions require. 40 hours per week; additional hours may be required to fulfill leadership responsibilities and meet operational needs.
